May 2022 Vedic Astrology Planet Transits

What a month ahead! We have four planets in HIGH dignity (the Sun is exalted in Aries; Venus and Jupiter in Pisces, the former exalted and the latter in its own sign; Saturn in its own sign), but Mercury goes retrograde for three weeks on May 10th, and there’s a Total Lunar Eclipse on May 15th. Details below:

Just to review for a moment: Saturn moved into its own sign of Aquarius on the night of April 28th. but here’s the thing – it moves so slowly, it won’t even have time to get out of Sandhi, “the gap” so it could finally experience its full power, before it goes into retrograde motion! The retrograde period begins on June 4th and that continues until October 22nd. That backward direction carries it back into the other sign it owns, Capricorn, on July 12th and it stays there until January 23, 2023. Yes, that is a very long time! But that’s the slow Saturn pace. It would be better if the midterm elections were to occur while Saturn is in Aquarius, but that is not to be. Capricorn is a Earth sign, very practical and pragmatic, plus hard-working. Aquarius is an air sign, signifying humanitarian concerns. During the Retrograde period, Saturn will cause workers to deal with things that had been previously put in motion when it was in that sign before; things that didn’t get wrapped up. Either sign works fine, if you happen to have a Capricorn Ascendant or Moon sign, as those 1st (self/body) and 2nd (wealth/family/speech) houses produce good results for Capricorns. But for Aquarians, here the ruler of their charts backs up into their 12th house of loss, expenses, solitude/isolation, foreign travel, enlightenment. A good time for them to work on spiritual growth.

May 10th – MERCURY goes Retrograde! This condition lasts until June 3rd, and will bring its usual share of communication snafus and some technical difficulties. This time Mercury is in Earth sign Taurus. That’s a good house for Virgos, one of the signs ruled by Mercury, as Taurus is their BEST house (9th) of good luck, good fortune, destiny, dharma, remedies, higher education and pilgrimage. For Geminis, also ruled by Mercury – well, a good time to work on spiritual development, going within through meditation or retreats, as here Mercury is in their 12th house of loss, expenses, isolation, and ….spiritual enlightenment.

May 13th MERCURY goes combust the Sun now, until May 29th. Yes, on top of being Retrograde, it now feels its qualities a bit “burnt up by the Sun” so what can we expect? Even crabbier communications, and a higher than usual level of verbal misunderstandings. Geminis and Virgos especially, be careful of your speech now!

May 14th – The SUN enters Taurus, joining Mercury there. This brings feelings of personal power to those with Taurus Rising or Moon signs, plus they are already feeling communicative with Mercury in their sign. This is a beneficial planet lineup for them, and the Sun here can bring Taureans some good real estate deals or some may decide to acquire a new vehicle. Friends should enjoy being in your company during this one month transit.

May 15th – Total Lunar Eclipse – The total phase of this Blood Moon total lunar eclipse will be visible from across North and South America, plus parts of Europe and Africa. This eclipse occurs in the Air sign Libra, where the Moon is now conjunct with Ketu, the South Node of the Moon, which is trying to swallow it and put out its light, so eclipses are not auspicious and traditional advice is to not look at eclipses or be outside to be exposed to the luminary whose light is being eclipse. Those with Libra Rising or Moon signs may feel more sensitive for a few days before and after this eclipse. The same can be said for those with Cancer Rising or natal Moons, as the Moon rules their charts. They are already the most sensitive sign of the zodiac (I know some Pisceans may argue that point, as they are also a water sign, but I still say Cancer wins by an edge in the sensitivity category).

May 16th – MARS enters Pisces. Here it joins two of the planets in high dignity: Venus who is Exalted here and Jupiter which is in its own sign in Pisces. Party time for those with Pisces Rising or Moon signs! With Mars now conjunct Venus, they will be feeling sexy, as well as blessed by that benefic Jupiter showering them with gifts. Besides, Mars owns their money house (2nd) AND their 9th house of good luck and good fortune, so what’s not to like with this picture? Oh yeah, Venus there COULD make some Pisceans feel a little too self-indulgent. So avoid the substance abuse, please.

May 23 – VENUS moves into Aries. Venus rules the signs of Taurus and Libra. Librans may attract a partner or feel their current partner more attentive now. Taureans will need to watch out for excessive spending, especially on items of beauty and luxury…the desire to do so may be strong here. Those with Aries Rising and Moon signs will feel attractive to partners and enjoy being in the spotlight now. I mean even more than usual! LOL.
