Vedic Astrology: The Eclipses of JULY, 2019

July 3, 2019

July 2019  features some significant planetary action to report. (And yes, I’m late in posting this; chalk it up to my move on 6/30!)  Can you handle TWO eclipses, THREE retrograde planets and THREE planets combust (too close to) the Sun, all in the same month? If so, read away. And hey, “I don’t make the rules; I just work here.” Reporting what’s up so everyone can be prepared.

July 2nd featured the total SOLAR ECLIPSE. It was visible only in the South Pacific and parts of South America, mainly Chile and Argentina. Even though people here in the West run to catch a view of eclipses,  in Vedic Astrology, they are considered inauspicious. They symbolize one of the demon/Rakshasa nodes of the Moon (either Rahu or Ketu) trying to “swallow” and put out the Light and life of one of the luminaries, the Sun or Moon. This time it was Rahu (north node of the Moon), trying to swallow the SUN. But since the luminaries are immortal, they escape that grip. Generally effects are worse where an eclipse is visible. In ancient cultures they found that these celestial messengers, including comets and meteors, would symbolize war, the death of a beloved leader, or earth changes. Citizens were advised not to look at an eclipse, not to eat during one, nor to let their bodies be within the rays of the eclipsed Orb. According to Indian Vedic Astrologers I have worked with, the effects of an eclipse last from two weeks before to two weeks after. Some even say from one month before to one month after! Those who would feel the most impact from this eclipse are those with Leo Rising or Moon signs, as the Sun rules their charts. This occurred in the sign of Gemini, thus those with this Ascendant or Moon sign could have also experienced some low energy.

July 7th – MERCURY GOES RETROGRADE. Oh yes, here we go again. And it lasts until July 31st. Mercury is currently transiting water sign Cancer, along with Mars (which is in its sign of debilitation). For those ruled by Mercury, the Geminis and Virgos, at least this represent good house placements for them. Once again, everyone needs to bring to mind the need to be tactful and have diplomacy. But with fiery Mars conjunct the planet that represents communication, that will be a lot to overcome.  Be careful with all communication devices, or you could end up sending a text or email to an unintended person! The Mercurial natural sense of logic may be influenced by emotions now, due to going through the sign of Cancer. When a planet is retrograde the energy turns inward, more self reflective, or internalized. Saturn and Jupiter already have been retrograde for some time now. Problems and aggravations seem to be enhanced during these cycles. During these retrograde periods, we often have an opportunity to revisit and rework matters we thought we’d already completed or had a handle on. I guess a positive way to look at it is that retrogrades bring second chances.

July 8th – Benefic VENUS, currently in the sign of Gemini, along with Rahu and the Sun, now goes Combust, i.e. traveling too close to the Sun. This reduces its ability to be at its best in terms of generating the usual Venusian qualities that bless our lives: luxury, comforts, affection, pleasures and desires, as well as social behavior. Passion can still be there, with that Rahu conjunction, but be wary of making decisions in haste regarding relationships at this time.  This combustion lasts until September 19th, which is a long time for Venus to be so affected.

July 11th – MARS goes combust.  Tempers may flare, and as this planet represents the action priniciple,  deeds can be “done in haste” and repented later. Better to attempt to maintain equanimity despite such challenging planetary events this month, if possible. Stay cool, both physically and emotionally. A nice cool dip in the pool, or iced beverage may be just the thing to chill out some now.  Of course, if you have a beach trip planned, these various planet combination are apt to open the door to hurricanes or tropical storms, so stay on top of the weather reports, before you travel.  This Mars combust status lasts until August 8th. And of course Mars is currently sitting in Cancer, its sign of debilitation. It is just not at its best this month.

July 13th – MERCURY becomes the third planet this month in Combust status.  Ruling speech as it does, words may be said that one later regrets, added to the Mars-influenced actions mentioned above.  The Mercury combustion lasts until July 29th.

July 16th – SUN enters Cancer, joining Mars and Mercury there, and adding to the “heat” those with Cancer Rising or Moon signs are already feeling. At least it may be good for finances as the Sun rules the second house of wealth for Cancerians. That’s something.

July 16-17 – A partial LUNAR ECLIPSE occurs. MDT this will occur from 12:43 to 6:17 p.m.  However, we are fortunate not to have it visible here. Areas of visibility will be: Australia, S. America, most of Europe and Asia.  There will be some slight partial visibility in the very southern tip of Florida and uppermost eastern New England. The Moon represents mind and emotions, so when the light is “put out” for that brief time, those arenas get affected. It is a good time to dive deeply into some spiritual insights and reset one’s compass, if the need for that becomes apparent during one’s time of reflection.

July 23 – VENUS enters Cancer, stirring up romantic and affectionate feelings within those with this Rising or Moon sign.  Especially considered that Mars is already sitting there. This type of conjunction usually brings in romance!  The desire for comforts and luxuries may also increase for those born under this domestic, compassionate sign.

July 29th – Mercury becomes non-combust (see above).

July 30th – Mercury retrogrades all the way back into the previous sign, Gemini, which is its own sign, and it is comfortable there. This will assist the Gemini Rising and Moon sign people to gain some mental clarity, which Rahu traveling there has muddied to some degree.

July 31st – MERCURY GOES DIRECT MOTION. And on that cheery note ends the month of three combustions, three retrograde planets and two eclipses!  Communications and commerce can now roll forward with greater ease and success. Plus the Geminis and Virgos will feel more like themselves now.

February 2019 Planet Transits

February 1, 2019

MARS is featured this month, moving into fire sign ARIES on 2/05/19. This is its own sign, where its energy is strong and healthy.

I’m trying a new format this month, going through each Rising Sign (so I hope you know yours, in the Vedic Astrology system; if not, contact me for a reading).  I’ll discuss how each relevant planet’s situation will effect each Rising Sign (or if your natal Moon is that sign, as well).

First I’ll list the dates of planet transit shifts, then get into the discussion, below that:

2/05/19 – Mars in Aries, until 3/22/19.

2/06/19 – Mercury enters Aquarius, until 2/24. Then it enters Pisces, its sign of Debilitation.

2/12/19 – Sun will be in Aquarius until 3/14.

2/17/19 – Mercury is now out of combustion (being too close to the Sun), which is helpful to improve communications across the board, as well as improve tactfulness and diplomacy.

2/19/19 – Full Moon in LEO. This is a good placement for those with Cancer Rising, as it is their house of family, wealth and communication. It may bring Leos a more inward feeling, for it rules their 12th house of solitude or isolation.

2/24/19 – VENUS enters Capricorn.

Aries Rising – The Ruler of your chart moving into your 1st house of self, body and personality will serve to energize you, so your natural flow of ambition, courage, and feeling action-oriented will prevail. Watch for doing things too hastily now.  When the Sun enters Aquarius, that brings success to your house of income, gain and fulfillment of desires.  The full moon will be beneficial in a good house for you. Mercury’s contribution is also positive up until it enters your 12th house (Pisces) on 2/24.  Then your health and vitality may not feel at its peak.  Venus’ entry into Capricorn brings blessings to your career house.

Taurus Rising – The Mars transit through your 12th house (Aries) is not as positive. Expenses may get activated by this transit.  However when Venus, the ruler of your chart, enters Capricorn on 2/24, this is a great help, for it is moving from your house of vulnerability into the best house (9th), increasing your good luck and good fortune.  This will help you feel like yourself again.

Gemini Rising – Mars crossing your house of income nicely stimulates cash flow now.  The ruler of your chart, Mercury, getting out of the 8th house (vulnerabilities, transformation) and moving into Aquarius on 2/6, will restore a sense of connection with Natural Law and Dharma. Some travel may occur.  Then when Mercury enters Pisces 2/24, it is a boost to your career, and that will be your focus.  Mercury going non-combust on 2/17 is helpful to you on several levels.  Venus in Capricorn on 2/24, may increase some vulnerable feelings and affect your romantic relationships, which are already under some pressure with Saturn traveling through your 7th house since September, 2017.

Cancer Rising – The February transits of Mars, the Sun, and Mercury are all beneficial to you, in several ways, including career and income. The full moon will be auspicious for you, as well.  Venus once it is in Capricorn, is positive for your relationships.

Leo Rising – Mars in Aries is an improvement, as will be the Sun leaving your 6th house of conflict, enemies, rivals and competitors, to enter your 7th house of partners, marriage and travel on 2/12, making you feel closer to your partner. Mercury there is a plus as well. Once it moves into Pisces on 2/24, you will need to watch your spending, and may experience some skin or nerves issues.

Virgo Rising – Mars in Aries is not the most fun transit for you, as that is your 8th house of vulnerability.  Watch for getting “overheated” and your energy level may not be as great now, since Mars also rules your 3rd house of vitality.  Things are better with Mercury out of combustion on 2/17.  While Mercury transit Aquarius, your best use of this 6th house transit will be using your astute problem-solving abilities and being of service to others. It’s an easier time for you once it enters Pisces on 2/24, even if it is debilitated in that sign. Venus in Capricorn also on 2/24, is helpful to both your learning and teaching abilities, and contributes to your success. The full moon in Leo on 2/19 is your 12th house so their may be an inward or spiritual focus on that day, but be careful not to spend too much then.

Libra Rising – You will enjoy Mars lighting up your relationship house, which it owns. Nice. Especially after its less pleasant 6th house transit you’ve been experiencing.  Mercury while in Aquarius is positive, but once in Pisces, not as much fun. With your natural instinct for harmony and balance, you will get through that time.  Sun when in Aquarius, is also positive, for income and gain, which the full moon this month will also contribute to.  The ruler of your chart, Venus, going into Capricorn on 2/24, will connect you more with home, and friends, so that should be an enjoyable transit.

Scorpio – Mars in Aries…that is your 6th house, so you may find yourself confronting some inner or outer “enemies” or rivals, and perhaps feeling more feisty and competitive now. Mercury’s transits are both positive house placements for you. The full moon will be a good one, too, occurring in your 10th house of career and action. Venus has been fine for you where it is in Sagittarius, but will be a benefit to your vitality when it enters Capricorn.

Sagittarius – The Mars and Mercury transits are mostly positive this month, though you may have some issues with a child, with whom some anger could erupt. The full moon is auspicious, in your best house (9th). Sun in Aquarius is good for projects and getting things accomplished, using your hands. Venus moves into your 2nd house, helping to improve money matters 2/24. There is still task-master Saturn in your first house and it remains there until 1/20/20.

Capricorn – The Mars transit will be good for real estate matters for you, while it is in Aries, so that lasts well into next month. The Sun’s move into Aquarius takes some pressure off you as well, and is better for money issues. The full moon occurs in your 8th house so you may feel some emotional vulnerability or isolation at that time. Mercury’s transits will be okay for you. Once Venus enters your first house, that is a real highlight of the month for you, being good for the areas of career, success and romance. It remains there until 3/21. This may help some of the sting out of Saturn, the lord of your chart, still being in your 12th house of loss, expenses and isolation (until 1/20/20), as well as lunar node Ketu remaining in your 1st house until 3/23.

Aquarius – Aries brings you more energy this month.  The Sun crossing your first house may bring a partner closer to you. The same influence comes from the full moon in your 7th house of partners on 2/19. Mercury’s transits are good, first for a greater emphasis on romance, and making you feel sexy, and then once in Pisces, more focus on finances. Venus once in Capricorn 2/24, may bring foreign travel, greater spending or “bed pleasures.”

Pisces –  You will feel more comfortable with fiery Mars out of your 1st house of self and now in your 2nd house of wealth and communication. It can do you some good there, in those areas, but watch for letting irritation or anger creep into your communications.  Mercury in Aquarius is not such a good transit for partnerships, and you may also have some vehicle expenses. It’s better for you once it moves into Pisces on 2/24. On that day Venus moves to Capricorn, which is excellent for both energy and earnings.  The full moon occurs in your 6th house where it may increase some worries.

Just a reminder that your own personal planetary cycles (Dashas) carry more weight than most transits. Please consult me for a personal reading to see what those influences may be for you now. 720-448-3742.  Also, the big excitement occurs next month, when the lunar nodes, Rahu and Ketu change signs on 3/23. Stand by for the March report and how this big shift will affect you…it only occurs every 18 months.

January, 2019 New Year Planet Blog

January 2, 2019

Are you ready to jump into the new year and play among the stars? What a great time of year to get a personal reading. Once you know your Vedic chart, my monthly Blog posts will make a lot more sense to you.  Contact me at 720-448-3742 to set up a session and thank you for sharing this info with your interested friends.

January 1st – Both Moon and VENUS enter Scorpio today, joining benefic Jupiter who is already there. Our water sign friends will feel more emotional, affectionate and sensual today, attracting interest from partners and others.  Libras will enjoy a warm connection to family during this Venus transit of their 2nd house, as well as a good flow of finances. Taurus Rising and Moon sign individuals will enjoy their relationship at deeper levels now, and possibly some travel. VENUS stays here until Jan. 29th.

January 5th  – Mercury becomes combust the Sun today, on this New Moon in Sagittarius day. There will now be a total of FOUR planets crossing this fire sign. Saturn has already been combust for some time. New Moons are a good time for new beginnings or rituals to increase abundance etc.  There is such a mixture of conflicting energies now for those with Sagittarius Rising or Moon signs. There can be feelings of vulnerability and obstacles, yet some positive financial results as well. With two planets combust in this sign, they will feel some inner tensions and restlessness, for sure.

January 6th – There will be a partial solar eclipse today, in the sign of Sagittarius today.  The area of visibility will be NE Asia   northeast Asia, including BeijingIrkutsk in Russia, SeoulTaipei, and Tokyo and the north Pacific. Eclipses are never auspicious and the areas of visibility are where the impact will be felt the most.

January 14th- The SUN enters earth sign Capricorn. Here the Sun is not in a friend sign’s and will be traveling through the 6th house from LEO, which is ruled by the Sun, bringing some discomfort, anxiety, stress, obstacles or health issues for those with Leo Rising or Moon signs.  Those with Capricorn Rising or Moon signs will feel some burdens that may include having unexpected bills pop up that must be paid, and going through changes that affect their love of a consistent routine, with their 8th ruler now crossing their 1st house of self, body and direction of their life.

January 18th – SATURN goes non-combust, bringing some relief for Capricorns and Aquarians, which are the signs that Saturn rules.

January 20th – Mercury enters Capricorn.  Here Mercury will be traveling with the Sun and the south node of the Moon, Ketu.  Those ruled by Mercury, the Virgos and Geminis, may feel greater intuitive tendencies now, which a Mercury/Ketu conjunction can bring.  Capricorns will have mixed results with this planet line up and swing between feeling talkative and secretive.

January 20th-21st – No doubt you have already been hearing much talk about this “super blood wolf moon eclipse.” Starting Jan. 20, a total lunar eclipse, or blood moon, that coincides with a supermoon, will be visible throughout the United States. The event starts late in the evening Jan. 20 and finishes during the wee hours of Jan. 21. The total phase of this total lunar eclipse will be visible from North and South America, and western parts of Europe and Africa. Central and eastern Africa, Europe, and Asia will see a partial eclipse of the Moon. For the Mountain Time zone, the eclipse will be at its point of maximum fullness at approximately 10:15 p.m. on January 20th. Again, the classical Vedic text recommend not looking at eclipses, though I understand the temptation to do so. The event symbolizes the malefic north node of the Moon, Rahu, trying to “swallow” or put out the light of the Moon, one of two significant luminaries in our solar system. You can google and read more about the meaning of eclipse in Vedic Astrology. This particular eclipse will occur in the water sign CANCER, which the Moon rules. Thus it will have significant impact on those with Cancer Rising or Moon signs. Moon also stands for mind and emotions, for all charts.  Events may occur leading up to and during this celestial occurrence that reflect certain emotional trauma or suffering, especially for the Cancerians of the Vedic zodiac. I myself plan to “lay low” that day! Fortunately “this too shall pass” as is the case with all eclipses. Not fun while such challenges are going on, of course.

January 29th – Venus enters Sagittarius.  Here Venus joins its friend Saturn, bringing more playfulness and enjoyment to those with this fire sign Rising or Moon signs, lightening the load the Sags may have been feeling with just task-master Saturn there for some time.  Librans will have feel a spurt of creativity, while this 8th house transit for Taureans, may create some feelings of vulnerability or some type of transformation.

Vedic Astrology Transit Blog for October, 2018

September 26, 2018

VENUS is strongly featured in this month’s blog. It is high dignity, traveling through its own sign of Libra. In addition JUPITER is on the move! Read all about it.  Please remember that I’m available to give individual and couples readings, and I greatly appreciate your referrals. Thank you!

10/05/18 – Venus goes RETROGRADE until 11/16/18. Whenever a benefic planet goes into retrograde motion, it becomes stronger in its ability to do give its positive results.  Those with Libra Rising or Moon signs will continue to enjoy these benefits for some months to come. Once Venus  goes direct on 11/16/18, it will not exit Libra to move into Scorpio until 1/01/2019, due to the time it takes to retrace its footsteps forward and progress to the next sign. So enjoy feeling warm, affectionate, attractive, creative and very interested in art, music, beauty, and creature comforts for the rest of this year, all you Librans!

Taurus is the other sign ruled by Venus. The sign of Libra represents the 6th house for Taureans, which is not as comfortable in its influence. This house represents worries, stress, anxiety, delays, enemies, rival, competitors. The most productive way to channel the energy of this long transit through Libra is through being of service to others, which the 6th house can also signify.

10/06/18 – MERCURY enters Libra, joining its friend Venus there. These two planets together manifest a great energy of playfulness, fun, and creative communication. People will enjoy being around you, as you radiate these qualities, Librans!

Mercury rules the signs of Virgo and Gemini. This placement also brings positive influences for both of them. For Geminis, Mercury will be in their 5th house of children, success, education and learning ability. For Virgos, it is their 2nd house of wealth, family and communication.  Geminis and Virgos will see these important areas of life get energized in a positive way during this transit period.

10/10/18 MERCURY gets out of Combustion, where it was traveling too close to the Sun for comfort since 9/05/18. As Mercury signifies diplomacy, tactfulness, friendliness and communication, these areas may have seemed somewhat clipped and distorted during this period. As usual, the ones who would have felt the effects the most, are those with Gemini or Virgo Ascendant or Moon signs. Everyone will enjoy Mercury being free of combustion now.

10/11/18  JUPITER MOVES INTO SCORPIO. This great benefic planet only changes signs every 12.5 to 13 months, so this is the biggest planet news of the month.  Now it moves into a friend’s sign, and will bring positive changes for individuals with Scorpio Rising or Moon signs.  It actually will be a relief for Libras when it moves, as it rules their 3rd and 6th house and has been bringing certain qualities of stress and obstacles to them for a year now.  Jupiter represents good luck, good judgment, wisdom, and happiness in any case, so doesn’t do so much damage, even ruling those houses for Libras. But for Scorpios, it brings the energy of their 2nd house (wealth, communication, family connections) and 5th house (children, education, success) to those with Scorpio Rising or natal Moons. This will be far better than the transit of their 12th house of loss, expenses and isolation that Scorpios have gone through for a year now.

The signs ruled by Jupiter are Sagittarius and Pisces. Now Jupiter will be transiting the 12th house for Sagittarians. This will afford them the opportunity or desire for foreign travel or “bed pleasures,” but also some seclusion that may be desired, or by contrast, feel like isolation. The 12th house also pertains to losses and expenditures so the year ahead for those with this Rising or Moon sign will be a time to stick to a budget as much as possible.  For Pisces Rising and Moon signs, Scorpio represents their 9th house of good luck and good fortune, dharma, destiny, remedies, pilgrimage and Natural Law. This is a big improvement over the 8th house of Transformation and Vulnerability, which they’ve gone through for a year now. Pisceans can expect some wonderful improvements in the year ahead!

10/17/18 – The SUN enters LIBRA, joining Mercury and Venus there.  This brings a helpful influence for income and gain to the Librans, as the Sun rules their 11th house. For Leos, ruled by the Sun, it is their 3rd house of projects, vitality and shorter journeys. The only thing to consider is that Libra happens to be the sign of Debilitation for the Sun, and thus it will be weaker than usual for the next 30 days.

10/21/18 – VENUS goes combust the Sun, but this will only last until 10/31. During this ten day period, Librans and Taureans may feel a little more easily irritated than we ordinarily see with their usual graceful, harmonious and peace-loving, stable natures.

10/24/18 – FULL MOON IN ARIES, sign of New Beginnings.  The Cancer Rising and Moon folks, being ruled by the Moon, will enjoy this one, as Aries represents their 10th house of action, career, name and fame.  It would be a good time to ask for a raise or receive some career acknowledgement.

10/26/18 – MERCURY enters Scorpio, bringing clarity of communications, plus income and gain to our water sign friends with this Rising or Moon sign traveling through their Vedic charts.  For Virgos, this is their 3rd house, increasing the number of projects they’ll be involved in, and this is a good time for writing. So was the previous transits of Mercury through Libra. For Geminis, this new Scorpio transit represents their 6th house, so it will be a time to reflect on or perhaps analyze from a new perspective the hassles, delays and obstacles that they may now have to deal with.

All the best, from the Sunshine Corner, here in Boulder, CO.  Tel: 720-448-3742.  Thank you for referrals you send me.  I offer many services such as: natal chart readings, yearly updates, couples compatibility or astrocartography (location) readings.  If you would like to book an appointment for yourself, or as a gift for a family member or dear one, please call me, and we can schedule a 90 minutes, recorded session.  Thank you, Mary Stevenson, Vedic Astrologer,  healingevents@yahoo.com    http://www.vedicstarcharts.com

May Vedic Blog Post: The Planets, as Spring Arrives in Colorado

May 4, 2018

It’s time for another Vedic Astrology planet movement update, as the showers of May in Boulder, CO are bringing in a wave of green and many blooming trees and flowers.

Two planets remain in retrograde motion: SATURN and JUPITER.  Benefic Jupiter owns Sagittarius and Pisces. It is transiting in the sign of Libra these days, which is the 11th house of gain and income for the Sags, which should be fine. But for the Pisces Rising and Moon folks, that placement is not as good. This represents their 8th house of vulnerability, transformation, battles and disunion, so Pisceans could be feeling a little out of sorts these days, with some things just feeling beyond their control, including job situations.

Saturn governs the signs of Capricorn and Aquarius. It is in Sagittarius currently, which is the 12th house transit for Capricorns, thus may bring some problems for these practical earth sign people, as this represents their 12th house of loss, expense, seclusion or isolation. Added to the mix, Saturn also rules their 2nd house of wealth. With 2nd ruler situated in the house of loss now, that adds to financial issues. Unwanted expenses may thus come in out of the blue, while for the Aquarians, it is just the opposite.  This placement is their 11th house of income, gains and fulfillment of desire. It’s there for a long while, so dig in and learn the lessons it brings, trying to maintain equanimity in all situations.

May 2nd – MARS entered Capricorn, the sign in which it receives exalted status,  joining malefic, tricky Ketu there. Mars will remain in this sign all the way to November 5th this year, due to retrograde motion over the summer.  Mars does at least help Capricorns in terms of real estate and also attracting income, gain and fulfillment of desires.  The conjunction with Ketu, however, could bring some twists and turns to negotiations, so watch out for anything hidden behind the scenes, or the writing between the lines.

May 9th – MERCURY enters Aries, getting out of its previous debilitated status. Thus, communications over all should improve. Geminis experience income and gain as the ruler of their chart now transits their 11th house. The other sign ruled by Mercury is Virgo. This transit is their 8th house of vulnerability and transformation, so employing meditative practices to maintain their equanimity is of great value.

May 14th – VENUS enters Gemini, bringing stirrings of love and affection in those with this air sign Rising or Moon sign. Typically so intellectual and cerebral in their outlook, Geminis can enjoy a heightened sense of romance during this period.

May 14th – SUN moves into earth sign Taurus for the next 30 days. Those with Leo Rising or Moon (which are ruled by the Sun) will feel active and energetic, with a focus on their work, and just need to watch for getting overheated (excess Pitta dosha). The element of “name and fame” gets highlighted for them now, which is good for their careers and being in the limelight. These “Energetic Leaders” won’t mind that one bit!  For Taurus Rising and Moon chart people, the Sun may bring friends or relatives to visit. It heightens self confidence and may bring some real estate deal to consider.

May 24th – MERCURY goes combust the Sun. Thus diplomacy and tactfulness won’t be at their sharpest now. This condition affects Geminis and Virgos the most, but many others may notice some added brusqueness in communication with others, or less intellectual clarity.

May 26  – MERCURY enters Taurus, joining its friend the Sun there. This is an improved situation for Virgos, as the ruler of their charts now travels through their 9th (best) house of good luck and good fortune, dharma, destiny, remedies and Natural Law. For the Geminis, this 12th house transit may cause them to go more inward, feeling a desire for solitude, or the other extreme of simply feeling isolated. It is their house of loss and expense, as well.

April Planet Transits: Mercury Retrograde Until 4/15/18

April 1, 2018

3/31/18 Brings us a Blue Moon, in Virgo.

What a nice way to segue into April. The energies of Moon in Virgo are calming, bringing more logic and deductive skills out in the collective mind. Virgos get to enjoy their 11th house ruler, bringing income and gain their way, and fulfillment of desire.

SATURN is such a slow moving planet, that it’s been some time since I’ve written about its travels and how that affects the signs it rules, Capricorn and Aquarius, so it seems only fair to focus on that some.  Since 10/26/17 Saturn has been crossing the sign of Sagittarius. This is the 12th house for those with Capricorn Rising or Moon charts.  This house is all about loss, expenses, isolation or seclusion. Caps do need to watch their spending now, and do their best to push themselves out into the crowd to mingle with fellow humans, to avoid feeling the worst impacts of loneliness, which this transit can bring.  Going on spiritual retreats is advised now, as that is an excellent way to utilize the potential for Enlightenment that a 12th house transit also provides.

For Aquarians, Saturn, the lord of their chart, is traveling through their 11th house, so it can bring income and gain their way, with less effort than previously, so it is a positive experience, for the most part.

SAGITTARIUS is playing host to Saturn. That can bring the ability to focus and work hard for those with this Rising or Moon sign.  Life may seem somewhat hectic, too, with all the responsibilities that Saturn brings. Since MARS has also been transitting this fire sign since March 7th, and Mars and Saturn are enemies, there may be feelings of being pushed in one direction and pulled in the opposite direction. Definitely a “hurry up, and then wait” sensation. Mars will remain in this sign until May 2nd, so the internal angst can ease up some then.

4/08/18 – Mercury gets out of combustion with the Sun. This improves communications and tactful interactions overall, and brings relief to those with either Gemini or Virgo Rising or Moon signs, which are ruled by Mercury.

4/13/18 – The SUN enters Aries, where it experiences Exalted dignity.  The Leos, who are ruled by the Sun, will enjoy this exalted status, especially as Aries represents their 9th house of good luck, good fortune, remedies, pilgrimage and Natural Law.  For those with Aries Ascendants or Moon sign people, the Sun rules their 5th house of success, romance, and educations, highlighting these qualities in their lives now.

4/15/18 – MERCURY GOES DIRECT.  As usual, this brings relief to interpersonal communications. Did you notice any snags with technical equipment or anything related to correspondence during this time?  Virgos and Geminis can experience forward movement now, in their projects and career.

4/17/18 – SATURN goes retrograde. Its malefic qualities get stronger when it is in retrograde status. This can bring some feelings of depression or being down to those with Sagittarius Rising or especially with that Moon sign, as they are in Sadhe Sati at this time, and have to deal with obstacles, delays and hard work, during this cycle anyway. Now add the retrograde condition…so try to nurture and take care of yourselves at this time! It will stay retrograde until 9/06/18.

4/19/18 – VENUS enters Taurus, its own sign, where it is happy and powerful. This brings more comforts and luxuries to those with Taurus Rising or Moons, including the enjoyment of the arts, beauty or music. For Libras, also ruled by Venus, this is an 8th house transit…which is all about Transformation, and can also bring them some vulnerability. Venus remains here until May 14th.

Remember that for any difficult transit or dasha period (personal planetary cycle) there are ancient Vedic remedies known as Yagyas, which I can describe to you, to alleviate some layers of obstacles. These are most beneficial for “engineering the karma” away from the owner of the chart.

January, 2018 – Planets in the Vedic Sky

January 2, 2018

First, an overview of highlights for 2018, and then I’ll touch on the planet moves for January.

Cancer Rising and Moon sign folks will have to make peace with all the changes that Rahu passing through that sign will bring them throughout 2018.  Cancerians enjoy the peaceful pleasures of home life, but Rahu likes to cause chaos and unexpected events. Change is the “constant” for the year ahead, and possible dealings with “foreigners.” Rahu also stands for transformation, so we can visualize positive changes, if we are willing to embrace growth.

Across the zodiac, those with Capricorn Ascendants or Moon signs are experiencing the transit of Ketu, the south node of the Moon, through their sign. It stands for “hindrance and degradation” so there may be much soul-searching going on, some shyness, and even psychic experiences. Ketu can also bring a sudden mobilization of energy and a sudden manifestation of events. It is the other half of Rahu, the cosmic serpent, so unrest is likely, but again, can be used as a tool for greater understanding of one’s deeper nature, and for growth, if we decide to not resist the experiences it is sure to bring.  In addition, SATURN, ruler of Capricorn, is passing through their 12th house of isolation, seclusion, loss and expenses. This also can bring a focus on spiritual development and enlightenment.

Scorpios are enjoying a nice break now that Saturn finally moved from their sign on 10/26/2017. That is the first time for Scorpios to be free of the heaviness and restrictions Saturn can bring, for the previous 2.5 years. There are more good things to look forward to in the coming year, depending on the transits of Mars, lord of your chart (watch my blog posts, or get a yearly reading with me), and the icing on the cake is benefic Jupiter, friend of Mars, moving into Scorpio on 10/11/2018.

For Libras, Jupiter is not their best planet, based on the houses it rules. Until it moves out of their sign on 10/11/2018, it will bring more work, service to perform, and various projects. That won’t wear you out, but keep you busy, for sure. You’ll have to watch for weight fluctuations if you have Libra Rising or Moon sign.

Sagittarians now have the weight of Saturn on their sign, where it will stay for about 2.5 more years. This brings a more serious disposition to this normally fun-loving sign. It can bring money (rules their 2nd house) but lots of responsibilities and duties, and there’s just no getting around that.  Some may even have bouts of depression, but staying active, finding ways to help others, would be a good remedy for that.

ECLIPSES in 2018: January 31 = total lunar eclipse; February 15 = partial solar eclipse; July 13 = partial solar eclipse; July 27 = total lunar eclipse; August 11 = partial solar eclipse. I will describe each of these more fully, as I get to the monthly blog posts for those months.

JANUARY 2018 Transits: (to fully understand what they mean for YOU, it’s best to book a yearly reading with me. Call 720-448-3742).

1/01/2018 – We begin with a FULL MOON in Gemini. Cancerians (ruled by the Moon) may feel more inward, or even a little lonely or isolated, as this is a 12th house transit for them. On the other hand (a saying Geminis are very fond of…) they may feel a lot of spiritual fullness within as they use this time to meditate or reflect on where they are and the kind of year they’ve just experienced, coming through the challenges triumphantly. A la that song, “I’m still standing!” ♪

1/01/2018 – Both Saturn and Venus go combust the Sun today. This could bring some heightened edginess or easy irritability for the signs ruled by these planets: respectively, Capricorn, Aquarius, Taurus and Libra. Saturn goes non-combust on 1/07/2018.  Venus goes non-combust on 2/19/2018.

1/06/2018 – MERCURY moves into Sagittarius. This is a welcomed position for those with Gemini Rising or Moon signs, as the ruler of their charts now shifts from the house of health problems, to the 7th house of business, partnership and travel. For Virgos, also ruled by Mercury, this is the 4th house of home, friends, vehicles, and self confidence, so it is also a good position.

1/13/2018 – VENUS enters Capricorn.  This is a friend’s sign so Venus is happy there. Good for both signs that Venus rules: for Taureans it will now be in their 9th house of good luck, good fortune, dharma, remedies and Natural Law. For Librans, this is their 4th house of comforts, home, friends, vehicles, self-confidence.

1/14/2018 – now the SUN joins Venus in Capricorn (which is one reason Venus is still combust into February, as they are traveling so close together now) This is not a friend’s sign for the Sun, which rules LEO. It is their 6th house of enemies, rivals, competitors, stress, worries, and health issues for our Leo friends, so they will have to wade through some of the above for a one month period now.

1/16/2018 – MARS happily enters Scorpio, its own sign, filling those who have this Rising or Moon sign with energy, courage, drive, initiative and the like. The only thing to watch for is possible bursts of anger or irritability, if things don’t happen as fast as you would like. Speaking of speed, better slow down, to avoid a speeding ticket during this transit! For the Aries Rising and Moon signs, also ruled by Mars, well…that is their 8th house, so there may be some vulnerability and changes to deal with.

1/26/2018 – MERCURY goes combust the Sun. This cycle in which a planet travels too close to the Sun (which makes a planet grouchy, angry, more reactive than normal) occurs more frequently for Mercury than any other planet, because it habitually travels closer to the Sun than the rest.  You may feel the subtle effects of just being more sensitive or reactive to things you normally would let roll off your back.  It can be helpful to employ meditative techniques to maintain your equilibrium and peace of mind during these cycles.

1/27/2018 – MERCURY enters Capricorn,  joining the Sun, Venus and Ketu in this Earth sign. Capricorn Rising and Moon sign people have a lot to juggle now, with many projects keeping them busy, some vulnerability brought to them by the Sun (ruler of their 8th house) but also some playfulness which Mercury and Venus traveling together generally bring to the party. This is the 8th house for Geminis, which represents vulnerability and transformation. It is the 5th house of education and success for Virgos, the other sign ruled by Mercury, so a better deal for the Virgos.

1/31/2018 – Total Lunar Eclipse, occurring in the sign of Cancer, which is ruled by the Moon. Those with Cancer Ascendants or Moon signs can expect to feel more sensitive than normal, as Rahu tries to “put out the light” of this luminary. Moon represents mind and emotions so can effect the clarity of one’s mental and emotional level now.  This eclipse will be visible in the USA, thus it has more impact on Americans. Here are all the areas of visibility for this one: western North America, North/East Europe, North/East Africa, Asia, Australia, South America, Antarctica,  the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans.  It is interesting that our current president was born during a total lunar eclipse, so I will be watching to see how this one affects him.  It occurs in his 12th house of loss.

December 2017 Vedic Astrology Planets – by Mary Stevenson

December 2, 2017

December, 2017 – It’s nearly the end of another year. This one has brought some momentous changes and seems to have flown by. Let’s see what the planets hold for us, this last month of the year.

Dec. 3 – MERCURY GOES RETROGRADE! This condition will last until Dec. 22, so how nice to have it over with before the holidays are fully here.  Get ready for three weeks of communication snarls and mishaps, which also applies to any equipment or devices that deal with communication.  Mercury rules the signs of Gemini and Virgo, so those with these Ascendants or Moon signs will feel this appearance of Mercury’s “backwards movement” the most.  Mercury is currently in Sagittarius, traveling with its friend Saturn, but they did have a brief “planetary war” last week, which was uncomfortable for many, so we are glad that is over.

Dec. 3 – MOON will be totally full in its sign of exaltation, Taurus.  The intensity of this full moon is being felt already, by many I know.  Taureans and Cancerians benefit from it.  The moon rules “mind and emotions” in the Vedic system, so having it both full AND exalted, is rather powerful. But the pull on human emotions can feel overwhelming now, coupled with the usual stress and anxieties of the holiday time of year. Be gentle with yourselves, and others.

Dec. 4 – SATURN combust the Sun. This brings more irritability than usual for those with Capricorn and Aquarius Ascendants or Moon signs. Watch for getting more easily riled up than is your normal nature.  Saturn also represents working people, service-oriented groups like the police force, agriculture, and oil.  There may be disruptions and unrest in any of these areas now. This condition will last until Jan. 7th.

Dec. 7 – MERCURY combust the Sun. This cycle in which a planet travels too close to the Sun (which makes a planet grouchy, angry, more reactive than normal) occurs more frequently for Mercury than any other planet, because it habitually travels closer to the Sun than the rest of the planets.  You may feel the subtle effects of just being more sensitive or reactive to things you normally would let roll off your back.  It can be helpful to employ meditative techniques to maintain your equilibrium and peace of mind during these cycles. This cycle lasts until Dec. 18.

Dec. 10 – MERCURY moves into Scorpio.  Here those with Scorpio Rising or Moon signs will find communication mattering more than their somewhat secretive natures may be used to.  But Mercury will be in both a retrograde AND combust status, so all of us will need to strive to be as diplomatic as possible in our speech as well as any written correspondence.  Gains can come to Scorpios now through commerce. Virgos will have energy to expend on various projects. Geminis (also ruled by Mercury) may not feel as chipper, since this is their 6th house of worry, stress and physical health concerns. Mercury stays here until Jan. 6, 2018.

Dec. 15 – The SUN moves into Sagittarius, a friend’s sign.  Leos (ruled by the Sun) will enjoy a month of heightened learning abilities, success in worldly projects or speculative matters. They will feel more playful and romantic as well, or enjoy spending time with children.  Sagittarians get an energy boost from the Sun’s power and experience the “good luck and good fortune” the Sun brings, as their 9th house ruler.

Dec. 20 – VENUS enters Sagittarius. Here it joins the Sun and Saturn, bringing a swirl of energies to those with this fire sign Rising or Moon sign. Interestingly, I just looked at someone’s chart with these same three planets in her first house of self, body and personality, so that is a three-way natal return for her!  Natal returns can be a bit intense. We get the opportunity to really deal with whatever issues our soul brought in to face this lifetime.  Sun and Saturn are enemies, so that part is not so comfortable. Venus is at least friends with Saturn. It can help spice up the planet party for our Sag friends.

Dec. 22 – MERCURY goes Direct motion, as mentioned above. It gets out of combustion Dec. 18, so it altogether will be feeling better and those with this planetary ruler (Virgos and Geminis) will experience life and projects moving forward at a good pace, once more. Communication in general becomes easier for everyone.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY HANUKKAH, AND A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!  This is a perfect time to give a holiday gift of one of my Vedic Astrology readings to a dear one.  Wishing the blessings of the planets to you, from the Sunshine Corner, in Boulder, CO.  Tel. 720-448-3742 (cell); or 928-284-4060 (home).  Thank you for your referrals.

I offer many services such as: natal chart readings, yearly updates, couples compatibility or astrocartography (location) readings.  If you would like to book an appointment for yourself, or as a gift for a family member or dear one especially as the holiday season nears, please call me to schedule one of my 90 minute sessions.  Thank you, Mary Stevenson, Vedic Astrologer, healingevents@yahoo.com. vedicstarcharts.com

The Intense Planets of August, 2017

July 31, 2017

We have no less than TWO eclipses and a Mercury Retrograde period to get through, coming up in August. Read on….

To get the most out of my blogs, it is helpful to know your Rising Sign (Ascendant or Lagna) and your Moon sign. Have you ever had a Vedic Astrology reading? If so, that information would have been provided to you. If not, you can always schedule a 90 minute session with me.

August 7th/8th – depending on where you live, the partial lunar eclipse will occur late in the evening of the 7th, or the wee hours of the 8th.  As a reminder, all eclipses are inauspicious and it is not good to view them.  Fortunately, this one will not be visible in the US, except for Hawaii.  This eclipse will be seen in much of Europe, much of Asia, Australia, Africa, east in South America, Pacific, Atlantic, Indian Ocean, Antarctica.  It occurs in the sign of Capricorn, which is the 7th house for Cancerians, the sign ruled by the Moon. Thus the Cancer Rising and Moon sign people’s tender feelings may be more sensitive than usual, and they could have trouble being “seen” in their primary relationships, as the 7th house governs marriage and partnership.

August 12th – MERCURY RETROGRADE, once again. Get ready for another three weeks of communication snarls and mishaps, which also applies to any equipment or devices that deal with communication.  Mercury rules the signs of Gemini and Virgo, so those with these Ascendants or Moon signs will feel this appearance of Mercury’s “backwards movement” the most.  It occurs in the sign of Leo where it is conjunct malefic Rahu, who causes chaos in the best of times, so just hang on until Mercury again goes direct motion on September 5th.

August 16th – SUN enters Leo.  Now normally this is a good position for the Sun, to be happily empowered as it crosses through its own sign in transit.  But let us not forget that Rahu is just lurking there, waiting for the right moment to swallow this important luminary in our solar system and put out its brilliant light. More on that event below.

August 19th – MERCURY goes COMBUST the Sun. That means traveling too close for comfort to its friend, the fiery orb.   This makes any planet angry and irritable and those it rules will feel its weakened condition (Geminis and Virgos) on top of the ruler of their charts being in retrograde. The combustion lasts until September 2nd.

August 20th – VENUS enters water sign Cancer, bringing all its good qualities to bless the Cancer Rising and Moon sign people. They will feel more attractive, and be more affectionate, as their focus turns to either artistic or creative projects, music, entertaining or love and romance.  Taurus and Libra are ruled by this great benefic and this sign represents a good position for them both, thus many of them will be enjoying Venusian qualities late in the summer. Remember that your dashas i.e. your personal planetary cycles “rule” and are more important than most of the transits. To learn where you are in that sequential flow, contact me for a reading.

August 21st – TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE, with total visibility in the USA from the Northwest, through the heart of the Midwest (below Iowa) and finishing its route through our country, as it passes through South Carolina. Not auspicious at all, and I don’t recommend trying to look at it, both for your eyesight’s sake and to avoid the malicious effects of Rahu’s attempt to put out the light of the Sun. However briefly that lasts, it is certainly not good for any Leos, as the Sun rules their sign and this eclipse happens to occur IN the sign of Leo, so that is like a double whammy.  The classical Vedic literature describes eclipses as being bad omens, not a good time to make major decisions or begin new projects. It’s more of a time to go inward, meditate, read scriptures and spiritual literature and fast during the height of the eclipse, a couple of hours on either side of it.  One of the most famous Americans who will surely feel the effects is Leo Ascendant Donald J. Trump.

August 25th – SATURN goes Direct. At long last, this ruler of the signs of Capricorn and Aquarius, will begin to move forward, and not a minute too soon for the Scorpio Rising and especially Scorpio Moon people, who have been hosting him.  He doesn’t get out of this sign until October 26th, but at least the forward motion helps the Capricorns and Aquarians now, to experience more progress in their projects, long-held desires, goals and aims.  This is our slowest-moving planet so any shift of gears in Saturn’s path is a big deal to consider.

August 26th – MARS moves out of Cancer, its sign of debilitation, and into its friend’s sign, LEO.  It will be quite the planetary pile up in this fire sign now, with four planets conjunct there now: Mars, Rahu, Sun, and the retrograde Mercury. It bears noting that Rahu and Mars will be at the exact degree on this date, which is not so helpful to Mars, and the signs it rules, Scorpio and Aries. So please take note of this date and protect yourself from unnecessary risks and accidents.

My September blog next month will also feature some big planet changes, with more of the slower-moving planets shifting signs: Jupiter, Rahu and Ketu. So stay tuned to the Sunshine Corner, currently operating from Boulder, Colorado.

Tel: 928-284-4060.  Thank you for any referrals you may send me.  I offer many services such as: natal chart readings, yearly updates, couples compatibility or astrocartography (location) readings.  If you would like to book an appointment for yourself, or as a gift for a family member or dear one, please call me, and we can schedule a 90 minute session.  Thank you, Mary Stevenson, Vedic Astrologer, healingevents@yahoo.com. http://www.vedicstarcharts.com

June Planets: All About Saturn as it Backs Up Into Scorpio

May 29, 2017

June is a month with some significant planet changes in their various transits around the fixed Zodiac, which is the system utilized by Vedic Astrology. We will explore here especially, the movements of two of the slower moving planets, Jupiter and Saturn. Going in order of the changes this month:

June 3 – MERCURY enters Taurus.  Here it is in a friend’s sign. This is an improvement for Virgo, one of the two signs that Mercury governs, as here Mercury is in the Virgos’ 9th house of good luck, good fortune and dharma.  It is not as good of a placement for the other sign ruled by Mercury, which is Gemini. For this sign, Taurus represents the 12th house,  thus it connects the Geminis with either foreign travel, loss and expenses, “bed pleasures,” or the desire to go inward and perhaps take some down time, alone. Feelings of isolation may occur. This would be an excellent time to attend a meditation retreat.

June 9 – The Full Moon occurs in water sign Scorpio, which is a friend’s sign, for the Moon. Those ruled by Moon, i.e. the sign of Cancer, should be feeling romantic or inquisitive at this time, as this represents their 5th house.  However, the Moon in this sign of its debilitation may bring on more emotional sensitivity than usual.

June 9 – That same day, MERCURY goes into combustion with the Sun, and this condition will last until July 3, creating a bit more tension in communications for many, in general. Especially the Virgo and Gemini Rising and Moon sign people will feel the effects, which may cause some irritability or impatience in their interactions with others.

June 9 –  JUPITER gets out of retrograde and goes direct motion now!  There can be a greater sense of progress and moving forward by, especially by the two signs ruled by this great benefic, Sagittarius and Pisces.  Jupiter first went retrograde on February 5 (the 6th, in most of the country), so this will be an exciting and positive shift. Jupiter represents happiness, good judgment, good luck, good fortune and knowledge. These qualities can now be more in the forefront in the collective consciousness.

June 14 – The SUN enters air sign Gemini, bringing some energy and productivity to the Gemini Ascendants and Moon sign folks. It is also a positive placement for those ruled by the Sun, the Leos among us, for the lord of their chart will be passing through their 11th house of gain, income and fulfillment of desire. Nice.

June 18 – MERCURY enters Gemini, its own sign. Here it is happy and strong, bringing greater clarity to the collective intellect. Geminis should sign now. It’s also great for the Virgo Rising and Moon signs, as the ruler of their chart now crosses through their 10th house of action, career, name and fame.

June 20 – SATURN retrogrades all the way back into Scorpio!  Now we can get into the nitty-gritty of our slowest-moving planet. It takes 2.5 years for Saturn to change signs.  Saturn entered fire sign Sagittarius on January 26, but then it started this retrograde dance on April 5.  It continues to back up into the sign it had been in for over two years already, SCORPIO.  Thus the Scorpio rising and Moon sign folks get a little “bonus Saturn.  Though Saturn goes direct motion on August 25, it does not re-enter Sagittarius until October 26.

This period will be most noticeable by the two signs ruled by Saturn, which are Capricorn and Aquarius. Scorpio represents good houses for both of these signs.  For Capricorns, it is their 11th house of gain and income. For Aquarians, this their 10th house of career, action, name and fame.

For Scorpios, Saturn rules their 3rd and 4th houses, which isn’t so bad, as influences go. However, Saturn in its own right, represents grief, depression, obstacles, separation, hard work, service, and humility. Expect to experience one or more of these influences during those four months from June 20 until October 26.  A retrograde time always gives those affected an opportunity to revisit and finalize some things that were not completed and finished satisfactorily in the prior passage over this sign.

Although the “Sags” will experience a brief respite from the sometimes heavy pressures of Saturn’s passage there, bringing some relief for those four months.  Then they will get their turn again, when Saturn re-enters this sign on October 26 for the next 2.5 years period.  Owning their 2nd house of wealth, and 3rd house of self-efforts, as long as they are willing to work hard, stay organized and focused this transit does not have to be so bad.  Unless you have your Moon there.

This brings us to the subject of Sadhe Sati. This is a 7.5 year transit which each of us experience every 28 years (the first one in life depends on where one’s Moon and Saturn were at the time of birth).  Saturn spends 2.5 years in the house before the Moon, then smack dab on the Moon, and then the 2nd house to the Moon. This cycle can really cause us to become a lot more philosophical and detached vs. all the attachments that this mundane world can try and create within us, which only brings grief along the path.  I have so many friends who have their natal Moons in either Scorpio or Sagittarius, and I’ve witnessed the various pressures and hardships they have been under for the last 2.5 to 5 years.  Moon represents mind and emotion while Saturn represents grief and depression, thus you can see why this isn’t such a fun cycle, but we can certainly use it to grow, learn a lot of spiritual lessons and be of service to our fellow man.

June 29 – VENUS enters Taurus, its own sign. Thus Venus will be in high dignity at the same time that Mercury is in its own sign, as well. Happier times are thus on the horizon for the Taureans. They will want to be surrounded by beauty, music, art, luxuries and pleasures. For the other sign ruled by Venus, Libra, those with that Ascendant or Moon sign, this is their 8th house of transformation and vulnerability, so it might not be as smooth a transit as for the Taureans.

Blessings of the planets to you, from the Sunshine Corner in from Sedona, AZ.  Tel. 928-284-4060.  Thank you for any referrals you may send me.  I offer many services such as: natal chart readings, yearly updates, couples compatibility or astrocartography (location) readings.  If you would like to book an appointment for yourself, or as a gift for a family member or dear one, please call me, and we can schedule a 90 minute, taped session.  Thank you, Mary Stevenson, Vedic Astrologer, healingevents@yahoo.com. vedicstarcharts.com
