The Four Retrograde Planets of April, 2017

April 1, 2017

It’s a really “happening” month with planet changes, so keep your seat belts fastened.

4/05/17 – SATURN goes Retrograde. This is our slowest-moving planet. Changes he makes are significant, often affecting broad segments of society from law enforcement to the working class, and laws concerning same.  Saturn has been transiting fire sign Sagittarius since January 26th. This has been a wonderful let-up for those with Scorpio Moons (especially) or Rising Signs, where it had been stationed for over two years.  Capricorn and Aquarius are the signs ruled by Saturn. The retrograde motion may make them have to work harder to reach their goals.  Now we have three planets in retrograde motion. There will more explanation of retrograde planets, in general, below.

4/09/17 – MERCURY goes Retrograde.  Yes, here we go again. This condition will last until May 3rd. Virgo and Gemini are the signs ruled by Mercury. They get affected in the following ways:  With Mercury crossing Aries at this time, that is the 11th house for Geminis. Thus income may actually see some nice increase now. However, the Virgos do not fare so well, as Aries is their eighth house.  Whatever “transformations and vulnerability” they may have been going through since March 26 when this transit began, could intensify now.  This could affect the areas of career and health. Mercury retrograde can cause confusing and misunderstandings, in general.

4/09/17 – On this day, we now have FOUR planets in retrograde motion, which is the appearance of going backwards. Already, the great benefics Jupiter and Venus have been retrograde for some time. As we see above, Saturn goes retrograde on 4/05 and now Mercury on 4/09.  That is a LOT of “backwards motion”!  Those ruled by Venus (Libra, Taurus) and Jupiter (Sagittarius, Pisces) have already been having the opportunity for some introspection and re-examining any old issues that had not been previously totally resolved.

Now we have those ruled by Saturn (Capricorn, Aquarius) and Mercury (Gemini, Virgo) in that same boat.  It is best to view circumstances that arise now as impersonally as possible, not letting emotions cloud our thinking, or actions.  It is a time to use caution and patience, not going with urges or rash, quick decisions.  It may indeed feel like affairs are “going backwards” or “just marking time” in your life, but once each planet moves forward again, and crosses the degree it had reached at the moment it went retrograde, the time is ripe for reaping the harvest of our actions and hopefully noticing some new advantage and perspective that we may have ignored earlier, to help propel us towards our goals. This is a time when many “buried” behind-the-scenes actions in government or elsewhere could be revealed and come to light, with the end goal of cleaning up many messes.

4/12/17 – MERCURY goes into combustion with the Sun.  Thus there is the double whammy of this planet which rules communication, tactfulness and commerce being both retrograde and too close to the Sun for comfort, at the same time. You know what that means, Virgos and Geminis, as you’ve gone through this type of cycle many times before, but it is never comfortable. Hang in there!

4/12/17 – MARS moves into Taurus.  In the previous transit of the sign of Aries, Mars was very strong and feisty, since Aries is its own sign, bringing out some war-like, competitive qualities of Mars.  Taurus is the second house for those with Aries Rising or Moon signs and connects them to wealth, family and communication, so not a bad transit at all. For Scorpios, who are also ruled by Mars, this will be a good transit, too, representing their seventh house of business, partners, travel and marriage, connecting them more with these important arenas of life.

4/13/17 – The SUN enters Aries. Here the Aries Rising and Moon sign people had just gotten rid of one fiery malefic planet (though Mars is a “functional benefic” for them, since it rules their charts),  only to have another one move into their sign. The Sun is in its sign of Exaltation here and thus very happy and powerful. This is a positive placement for the Leos, as the Sun rules their chart and will now be transiting their very best house, the ninth house of good luck, good fortune, dharma, Natural Law, remedies and pilgrimage. This transit will bring out leadership qualities in those with Aries Rising or Moon signs, though their egos could be a bit overbearing now.

4/15/17 – VENUS gets out of retrograde and goes direct motion. This will bring a sense of progress and moving forward for the Libras and Taureans.  Now we will be down to just three retrograde planets, which is still quite a lot!

4/27/17 – MERCURY gets out of combustion with the Sun. This helps communication across the board for everyone, and is especially helpful to those with Virgo or Gemini Rising or Moon signs.

Planets for the New Year: January, 2017

January 8, 2017

New Year’s blessing to all! May 2017 bring you many gifts.

Once again, I can blame my tardiness on getting this report written to Mercury Retrograde, but that just ended, so now, back to work.

VERY EXCITING NEWS! Please visit my newly redesigned website, which looks awesome and much more up-to-date. http://www.vedicstarcharts.com Now is a great time to have a reading with me, to get an in-depth look at your year ahead. As you can see on my website, I can now accept PayPal payments for my services.

January 2nd – Mercury got out of combustion with the Sun, bringing relief to all those with Virgo or Gemini Rising or Moon signs, especially.

January 8th – MERCURY WENT DIRECT! Yes, that was just this morning, so communications in general should improve now. Situations that seemed to be “going backwards” for the Virgos and Geminis for the past three weeks, can move forward more smoothly, as well.  If you’ve been having trouble with communication equipment, Mercury getting out of retrograde should also be a big improvement.  Go ahead and sign those contracts and make the new agreements you have been considering.

January 13th – The SUN enters earth sign Capricorn this date, which is not its favorite sign to transit. For the Leos, the sign that the Sun rules, this represents your 6th house of enemies, rivals and competitors, stress, worry, and health problems. You can expect some delays and snags until February 12th.

January 20th – MARS enters Pisces.  For those with Aries Rising or Moon signs, this represents your 12th house, so you may experience some losses or expenses, may feel you need some time alone, or conversely, just feel isolated. Foreign travel would be a possibility, depending on your dashas (personal planetary cycles). For the other sign ruled by Mars, Scorpio, this represents your 5th house of success, learning, children, and romance, so it’s a better placement for you.

AND NOW THE BIG ONE!  Our slowest-moving planet, SATURN, will enter Sagittarius on January 26th.  This is a relief for those with Scorpio Moons especially, as you have been in the middle of your Sadhe Sati period. Sorry to spoil the fun, but I must report that your relief will be temporary: Saturn goes retrograde on April 5th, and backs all the way up into Scorpio again on June 20th. It goes direct motion on August 25th, but does not move back into Sagittarius until October 26. There it will remain for roughly 2.5 years.  Sagittarians, “call me,” to get the scoop. You will be working hard, have many responsibilities, and will need to stay focused in the next few years, including having a structured schedule, which your nature may rebel against. Trust me, it’s worth it. Also, you’ll need to get enough rest every night!  Meditation is a great help for those dealing with Saturn’s influence.

January 27th – Benefic VENUS enters Pisces, its sign of Exaltation. The signs ruled by this planet are Taurus and Libra. The Taureans will fare very well, as this is a 10th house transit, emphasizing your popularity, career, name and fame, etc. Libras have to be careful, as this is your 6th house of worry and stress. Take care of yourself and watch out for jealousy that could be directed at you now. Pisces Rising or Moon folks will feel more creative, warm and loving, yet Venus does also rule your 8th house of vulnerability and transformation.  Pisceans really have to learn to have healthy boundaries or others will take advantage of your “Emotional Healer” nature and you could end up feeling drained.

For those who like to plan far into the future, I will mention a very powerful TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE ON August 21st, and yes, it will be visible in the US. The path of complete darkness caused when Rahu tries to “swallow the Sun” is from the Pacific NW, diagonally through the Midwest, and going through South Carolina, from what I’ve read. Eclipses are very inauspicious, should not be viewed, especially by anyone who is pregnant, and their biggest effects happen along the areas in which they are visible.  This eclipse occurs in LEO, which sign the Sun owns, thus it will have the greatest effect on those born with Leo Ascendants or Moon signs.

Blessings of the planets to you, from the Sunshine Corner in from Sedona, AZ.  Tel. 928-284-4060.  Thank you for any referrals you may send me.  I offer many services such as: natal chart readings, yearly updates, couples compatibility or astrocartography (location) readings.  If you would like to book an appointment for yourself, or as a gift for a family member or dear one, please call me, and we can schedule a 90 minute, taped session.  Thank you, Mary Stevenson, Vedic Astrologer, healingevents@yahoo.com. vedicstarcharts.com

December Planets 2016 by Mary Stevenson, Vedic Astrologer

December 4, 2016

December 2nd – The month begins with VENUS moving into Capricorn on the 2nd, staying in this Earth sign until Dec. 28th

Now it is traveling with Mars. They both give positive qualities to those with Capricorn Rising or Moon signs. The good results range from attracting friends and supporters, to getting a better position, making money, and success in general, even with games of chance. Enjoy it while it lasts!

December 11 – MARS moves into Aquarius.  It stays here until January 20, 2017. Even during its stay in the previous sign of Capricorn, Mars was doing an “exchange of houses” with Saturn, who has long been sitting in Scorpio, ruled by Mars. Both Capricorn and Aquarius are ruled by Saturn. The good news about this upcoming move into the fixed Air sign, is that Mars will get away from Saturn’s aspect, and thus be more comfortable, in that regard. The “other news” though, is that in Aquarius, Mars will be traveling with malefic KETU (the south node of the Moon), which makes for a trickier passage.

Mars and Ketu will be at the same degree on December 26th. Since Ketu is an “upagraha” (a planet without a body), it absorbs the energies of whatever planet in which it may be in conjunction, as well as those giving an aspect (looking at it). There are some astrologers making a very big deal about this conjunction and warning people to avoid traveling the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day. Some of these astrologers throw in the influence of the outer planets (Neptune, Uranus and Pluto) which we do NOT use in Vedic Astrology.

Yes, Mars can cause accidents, draw blood, represent violence, anger, temper and the like. To me, as far as individuals go, it depends entirely on what the sign of Aquarius represents in your own natal chart. If you have Aquarius Rising or Moon sign, yes, it would pay to be cautious. If you are a  Scorpio Rising or Moon sign, Mars and Ketu will be transiting your 4th house of vehicles, so yes, be careful. Once you have a reading with me, you will know what this sign represents in your own chart and thus, how to plan accordingly.

As always, I urge everyone to listen to his or her own intuition.  Could there be some terrorist activity in this cycle? There may be. For malefic RAHU will be aspecting Mars, from Rahu’s position in Leo. Whenever Mars and Rahu interact there can be fireworks, drama and generally not a good time had by all.

December 15 – The SUN enters Sagittarius, for its one month transit in this fire sign. This will be a nice change, from the Sun’s point of view, to get out of the same sign as its enemy, Saturn.  I expect Leos to feel better, with less restrictions here, and greater success, as the ruler of their chart will be crossing their 5th house. Perhaps governmental functions will also start flowing more smoothly then. Saturn’s influence has been tossing in some obstacles, delays and criticism, for the previous 30 days.

December 19 – MERCURY GOES RETROGRADE, until January 8, 2017. This marks the FOURTH Mercury retrograde period of 2016. Virgos and Geminis are used to taking measures to accommodate the apparent “things going backwards” effect of such a transit. Since Mercury rules communication and commerce, we all feel the impact, so we’ll want to keep in mind the need to be as tactful and diplomatic as possible – it won’t be easy, but let’s try!

December 22 – Mercury goes combust the Sun. This is a period of Mercury traveling too close to this fiery orb and thus some of its get qualities get singed a bit. That does include interpersonal communication, diplomacy, tactfulness and anything connected to communications equipment. This influence will last until January 2, 2017, so Virgos and Geminis especially, take note.

December 26 – Saturn gets out of combustion with the Sun. This is most helpful to those with Capricorn or Aquarius Ascendants or Moon signs. It has been combust since November 23, which makes any planet more grumpy, angry, and unable to present its best side and provide its best benefits.  Thus we should also see improvement in the career fields that are ruled by Saturn, from laborers to police personnel.

December 28 – VENUS enters Aquarius. Here it joins Mars and Ketu, and Venus will stay in this fixed Air sign until January 27, 2017, when it enters Pisces, its sign of exaltation. While traveling with Mars and Ketu in Aquarius, it does bring some sweetness to the planetary mix here, for Venus is Yogakaraka (best planet) for those with Aquarius Rising.

NOVEMBER STARS: Election Edition by Mary Stevenson

October 31, 2016

Below you will find my regular report on planet movements for this upcoming month, but first a discussion of a presidential candidate’s birth chart, which may be of interest:

Donald Trump – and why his planets show it is doubtful he could ever become president. It is a very interesting study, with some unusual findings. I am not taking a partisan stand here, just explaining what I see in his chart, including a major shift into a new maha dasha for him right at the time of the election.

Finding his birth data easily online, his Vedic birth chart shows a Leo Rising, with Mars in that first house. This explains a lot about his reddish complexion and hair color, in fact.  On the positive end of the scale, Mars can bring the owner of such a chart energy, courage, being very active, having ambition and drive, and initiative to get things done…especially when added to the fact that the Sun, ruler of his chart, is in the 10th house of power, name and fame. But wait, there’s more!  Mars is his BEST (or yogakaraka) planet and does explain his many successes with real estate as well.

On the negative end of the scale, Mars gives anger, rash behavior, irritability and quarrelsomeness. This Mars is also aspecting (looking at/throwing its energy on) his Moon (which stands for mind and emotions) which sits in his 4th house of friends, supporters, mother, and self-confidence.  This Moon is in terrible shape, being in its sign of debilitation and – the biggest issue of all – HE WAS BORN ON THE VERY DAY OF A TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE!!! This casts a lifelong shadow on his thinking and reasoning process.  It makes his feelings hyper-sensitive, as we have seen demonstrated by his reaction to the least slight or insult he may feel.

Mr. Trump’s Sun (ruler of his chart) sits in fixed earth sign of Taurus (ALL of the main considerations of his chart are fixed signs, making him very stubborn), in the 10th house of power with malefic Rahu, the north node of the moon and legendary head of the cosmic serpent. Since this shadow planet is called “the seizer” this explains a LOT of Mr. Trump’s behavior, even his own admissions on that video of how he cannot resist grabbing women.  Rahu surely did grab onto some name and fame, and personal power for him – at least for its 18 year reign. But that is coming to a quick close here.

My Vedic Astrology teacher taught us that at the end of its 18 year personal planetary cycle in an individual’s chart it “takes away all that it has given during that time” – I have seen that befall long time clients of mine, in very tangible terms.  Always at the end of Rahu’s cycle, the antardasha (second level of dasha) is Mars – so his anger issues are greatly activated now.

WHEN DOES IT END?  If his birth time is correct, his Rahu maha dasha (major cycle) would end on November 14th, just days after the election.  But we have already seen a lot of his fame falling away in terms of the many women coming forward to testify about his treatment of them, which they were afraid to bring up until this time. They are correct; when Rahu was in full power, they would have probably found no ears to listen. But now, the waning of the Rahu influence has begun.

Since we are all here to learn and grow, and as souls choose these paths that we have laid out for ourselves, I marvel at how much Mr. Trump’s personality so dislikes “losing” or those he considers to be “losers.” What an irony then, as we most likely will see him “LOSE” something he seems to have really wanted. Or does he?

No tears need be shed for Mr. Trump. He goes next into a Jupiter maha dasha. His Jupiter is placed in the second house of wealth and “communication” – the rumors we hear of him getting his own television network are probably true. He will not stop talking, though that talking may be toned down a lot. Jupiter rules his house of “other people’s money” and sits in his house of wealth, so there will still be no lack of financial success for him.

So there we have it. To sum up: the ego of the Leo rising (out of control since malefic Rahu sits on it and creates chaos in many of his actions); the debilitated and totally eclipsed Moon, causing emotional hyper-sensitivity. Mars in the first house causing the anger issues and aspecting his natal Moon as well, tell the story. By the way, it would be fascinating to have an inside look at his relationship with his mother, which appears quite karmic to me. But that would take too long to go into here.  I do not feel that America would benefit to have anyone born on a total Lunar eclipse, with such emotional instability issues related to that, becoming our Commander in Chief.  We shall see, but I simply do not feel it is likely…as Rahu takes away what it has given him, for the past 18 years.

Now back to our regular programming and a look at the movements of the planets for November:

11/06 – VENUS moves into Sagittarius, bringing those with this Rising or Moon sign more enjoyment, pleasure and a desire for entertainment. There can be a tendency to be over-indulgent for some Sags now. Venus rules Taurus and Libra. It now goes into the 8th house for our Taurus friends, and that can increase a feeling of being vulnerable or just having to go through some uncomfortable changes. For Librans, it’s their 3rd house so that’s fine; they may get more involved in creative, artistic projects now.

11/08 – Mercury enters Scorpio. This can help bring in some income for those with Scorpio Rising or Moon charts, but also some changes as it rules their 8th house, too, in addition to the 11th house of gain and income. For those ruled by Mercury, Virgos and Geminis, it works out like this:  it’s the 3rd house for Virgos, so they will keep busy working away. For Geminis, it represents the 6th house of stress and worry, so not a positive a transit for them.

11/15 – The SUN enters Scorpio for a one month transit. Too bad Saturn is still transiting there as those two are not comfortable hanging out that closely.  Scorpios, just keep working hard and the Sun, ruling your 10th house of career, power, name and fame, can be helpful here to get things done. Just watch out for getting overheated on any level.

11/21 – MERCURY gets out of combustion with the Sun, which it has been in since October 7th.  This brings relief to Virgos, Geminis and to interpersonal communication across the board.

11/23 – SATURN goes combust the Sun.  Your turn, Capricorns and Aquarians, to “feel the burn” as your ruling planet travels too close to this fiery orb.  Keep your usual cool, and try and not and let it get under your skin. This period lasts until December 26th.

11/28 – MERCURY moves into Sagittarius. It joins its friend Venus there to add to the party for the Sags.  For Virgos, it is your 4th house that the ruler of your chart will now be traveling through. That works to connect you to friends and supporters. For Geminis, it is your 7th house of partners, travel and business, so will be an improvement over the previous transit.

Enjoy the planets, from the Sunshine Corner in from Sedona, AZ.  Tel. No.

September Skies: Vedic Astrology Blog by Mary Stevenson

September 4, 2016

There’s much to report in the realm of planet interactions this month.

9/01/16 – The Sun was eclipsed by malefic north node of the Moon, Rahu, in its own sign of LEO.  However, this eclipse was barely visible anywhere, and not at all in the USA so other than those with Leo Rising or Moons signs, who may have felt some energetic shifts, I do not feel this was a very significant event, for most.

9/06/16 – MERCURY (which is already retrograde) goes combust the Sun.  This condition lasts until 9/16. It does not make Mercury a happy camper, thus misunderstandings and verbal disagreements may ensue, with Mercury not able to provide his usual tactfulness and diplomacy.

MERCURY RETROGRADE began last month and will go until 9/21.  At first, it won’t be too much of a problem, since this planet that deals with communication has been crossing Virgo, its own sign, where it is strong and happy. BUT!  It will back up into LEO, the previous sign on 9/09/16.  There it will be sitting with the Sun (briefly, until it moves) and malefic RAHU.  Things will get more dicey for those ruled by Mercury, Geminis and Virgos.  Especially the Virgos may experience more challenging results at this time, with the ruler of their charts crossing their 12th house of loss, expenses, seclusion or isolation.  Add to this Rahu playing a wild card thrown into this transit.  This condition lasts until 10/03/16, when Mercury will return to Virgo, and peace and order will be restored for you.

9/11/16 – Benefic JUPITER goes combust the Sun.  This condition lasts until 10/10/16 affecting those ruled by Jupiter, Pisces and Sagittarius.  You have a normally happy, upbeat nature, but could feel some inner “pinch” at this time. Take care of yourself and know that “this too shall pass.”

9/16/16 – the Sun enters Virgo. Here it escapes its one month transit with malefic Rahu.  That will come as a relief.  Jupiter and Venus will still be in Virgo at this time.  Those with Virgo Rising and Moon signs may have to watch their tendency to spend now, caused by the Sun, their 12th ruler, crossing the 1st house of self.

9/16/16 – Meanwhile, that same day, there will be a Penumbral Lunar eclipse (partial).  We are fortunate that it will not be visible in the USA. Regions which will be seeing at least some parts of the eclipse: Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, West in South America, Pacific, Atlantic, Indian Ocean, Arctic, Antarctica. Eclipses are not auspicious in the tradition of  Vedic Astrology, thus those in the areas where the light of this eclipsed luminary is visible, will experience the greatest effects.

9/17/16 – MARS ENTERS SAGITTARIUS!  Finally this long ordeal that has been going on since 7/12/16, with Mars transiting Scorpio in conjunction with Saturn, will be over. Both planets will breath their respective signs of relief.  This has not been an easy transit especially, for those with Aries Rising or Moon signs, since Scorpio represents their 8th house of vulnerability, battles and disunion, transformation, life and death.  It will be such a blessing for the ruler of your sign to now enter your 9th “best” house in your chart and bring you support of Nature, good luck and good fortune.

9/18/16 – VENUS enters Libra its own sign. This great benefic will be very happy here and benefit those with Libra Rising or Moon signs greatly.  The other sign ruled by Venus is Taurus. They will not have as easy a run of it, since Libra represents their 6th house of stress, worry, enemies, rivals and competitors, plus possible health problems. This transit lasts until 10/13/16.

There is no doubt that next month will be an easier ride for most of us, once Mars finally moves away from Saturn on 9/17; Mercury gets out of retrograde on 9/21 and we get further past the two eclipses of September.

To get a better understanding of how all these transits and other factors affect your personal life, call me for a reading!

All the best, from the Sunshine Corner in from Sedona, AZ.  Tel. No.

Planets of MAY: Jupiter Out of Retrograde on May 9th

May 7, 2016

How are the planets treating you this month? To me, it’s been like a case of “planetary bumper cars” – in other words, rather jarring. I never liked bumper cars, as a child.  One of my spiritual teachers said “Your chart is your curse,” and by that he meant, that all the karma we souls have taken on in this particular incarnation can be seen in our charts, including our strengths and talents. (Currently Mercury, Mars, Saturn, Jupiter are still all in retrograde motion; Venus and Mercury are combust the Sun).

May 9th – JUPITER GOES DIRECT MOTION. This is the first bit of good news to share, since we’ve had the occurrence of FOUR planets in retrograde motion and TWO in combustion with the Sun….all of which produce rather challenging conditions.  Jupiter rules Sagittarius and Pisces, and has been traveling through the fire sign Leo since July 13, 2015.  Since Jupiter is a great benefic, that’s fairly nice for the Leos, except for Jupiter’s 8th house rulership in their charts, bringing a certain amount of vulnerability and transformation to their lives during this transit.  Since malefic Rahu (north node of the Moon) joined it there on January 8, 2016, that adds to those qualities.  Jupiter can also add a certain degree of arrogance to those with Leo Rising or Moon charts, which is a quality they don’t really need more of, in any case! Now this forward movement of Jupiter, can bring more progress for the three signs in question, which will be a nice relief.

May 17th – Mercury gets out of Combustion. So that is the next piece of good news!  Not only do those signs that are ruled by Mercury: Virgo and Gemini, benefit and feel relief now, but any type of communication with our fellow human beings should go smoother now, whether it is verbal interaction, emails, letters, bank statements, or other important documents in which there are items we could have misinterpreted before.  Since the challenging condition of SIX planets has been so intense since late in April, this will be a welcomed change.

May 19th – VENUS moves into Taurus!  Ah, how this great benefic loves to be in her own sign.  Those with Taurus Ascendants or Moon signs will suddenly feel like they are swimming in familiar waters, and Venus adds a touch of luxury or at least creature comforts here, as well as renewed interest in art, music, romance, etc. (and possibly some self-indulgence!)  Remember that Venus is also combust (traveling too close to) the Sun now.  This makes a planet grouchy, angry, more reactive than normal, so you may find your moods mirroring these qualities, at times.  This condition lasts from  April 30 until July 13.

May 22th – MERCURY GOES DIRECT MOTION. Ah, yes, finally it is out of Retrograde! A good time will be had by all Virgos and Geminis, or at least a better tim ethan you’ve had all month, up till now.  Mercury is still in fire sign Aries at this time, which is the beneficial 11th house (gain, income) placement for the Geminis. It is not as good for the Virgos, in that the ruler of their chart is still in their 8th house of battles and disunion, transformation and vulnerability – this may produce feelings of being “in the gap,” watching and waiting for conditions to form and gel so that they can manifest for you, once Mercury moves onto the next sign and a better house (9th) for you, on June 7th.

All the best, from the Sunshine Corner, here in Sedona, AZ.  Tel. No. 928-284-4060.  Thank you for any referrals you may send me.  I offer many services such as: natal chart readings, yearly updates, couples compatibility or astrocartography (location) readings.  If you would like to book an appointment for yourself, or as a gift for a family member or dear one, please call me, and we can schedule a 90 minutes, taped session.  Thank you, Mary Stevenson, Vedic Astrologer, healingevents@yahoo.com. vedicstarcharts.com

Planet Moves for January 2016 – Mercury Retrograde 1/05-25/16; RAHU & Ketu Move 1/08

January 2, 2016

HAPPY NEW YEAR GREETINGS TO ALL!

Let’s see what the Vedic stars hold in store for us in this new year.  As always, you can contact me at 928-284-4060 if you would like to set up a personal reading to see what secrets your own chart reveals for the year ahead.

January begins with a fairly peaceful line up of planets.  Mercury is in Capricorn (a friend’s sign); Jupiter is in Leo (a friend’s sign); Mars is in Libra, and it was a big improvement when it moved there on December 15, getting out of that conjunction with Rahu in Virgo.  Yes, Virgos still have to contend with Rahu (north node of the Moon, and a tricky malefic) but only until January 8th!  Likewise, Pisces has the other half of this “cosmic serpent” crossing this compassionate water sign until that same date. More on this big move, below.  Venus joined its friend Saturn in Scorpio on December 25, bringing some ease to the Scorpios who have been weighed down by hard work taskmaster Saturn for some time.  This is an easier line up than we’ve had for a while, for most signs. However….here come the changes, for these planets are always moving!

1/05/2016 MERCURY GOES RETROGRADE.  We all get affected by this condition of the planet that governs communication, diplomacy, tactfulness and commerce, but those with Gemini or Virgo Rising or Moon signs always feel it the most. Mercury will go Direct motion again on 1/25/2016.

Be cautious about the usual snags in communication, misunderstandings and the like now, and the frustrations they cause.

Thus during this time things may appear to be “going backwards” in your life, or feelings of being misunderstood or miscommunications may occur. ANYTHING that deals with communication may be affected, from my experience.

From some error on your bank statement, to telecommunications equipment, faxes, computers not working right, one must be prepared for glitches. Be very vigilant if you plan to prepare your income tax returns during this time. “Avert the danger before it arises” can be an apt phrase here for laying low through this time of frustration. It’s not YOUR fault, and in many cases there’s not much you can do about it, so determine to ride the storm out, resorting to your clever sense of humor to make it through those big waves.

1/06/2016 – Speaking of retrogrades! Tonight the great benefic planet Jupiter goes retrograde motion.  This “appearance of going backwards” as seen from our vantage point on Earth, actually means that Jupiter’s influence gets stronger. That is what happens with the benefic planets. Their benefic qualities actually get stronger in such a period. The two signs ruled by Jupiter, though, will feel different results.  Sagittarius Rising and Moon sign people get the best of the deal, since Jupiter is crossing their 9th (best) house of good luck, good fortune, remedies, pilgrimage, dharma, natural law, higher education, religion and philosophy. As with all retrograde periods, they get an opportunity to revisit some previous issue, not totally resolved in the past.  The planets make sure that we cannot run and hide from working out situations that our soul wishes to learn and grow from. Pisces Ascendant and Moon sign people have the lord of their chart crossing the 6th house.  That house deals with health problems, mental stress, anxiety, delays, enemies, rivals and competitors. Some of the opportunities for growth that life presents to these compassionate individuals is to transcend the need to be a “rescuer” and not let people lean on them and constantly drain them. That ends up helping no one, in the end. Thus Pisceans can sometimes end up being “their own worst enemy” especially with a transit like this.  This retrograde period for Jupiter lasts until May 9th.

1/08/2016  Mercury goes Combust the Sun.  It remains in this condition until 1/19/16.

By now, you may know how this goes: watch your temper and tendency for impatience or irritability, which may get imbalanced now. This cycle in which a planet travels too close to the Sun makes it feel grouchy, angry, more reactive than normal.  Combustion occurs more frequently for Mercury than any other planet, because it habitually travels closer to the Sun. Nonetheless, you may feel the effects of just being more sensitive or reactive to things you normally would let pass. Employ meditation practice to maintain your equilibrium and peace of mind during these cycles. Mercury rules the skin and  nerves, so being combust the Sun may cause imbalances in either of these areas now.

1/08/2016 – RAHU AND KETU CHANGE SIGNS ONLY EVERY 18 MONTHS. This is the day that Rahu moves backwards (the only direction the Nodes ever move) into Leo and Ketu moves backwards into Aquarius.

This brings big relief to the Virgo and Pisces Ascendants and Moon Sign people in the Sidereal Zodiac upon which Vedic Astrology is based. Congratulations. You survived the last year and a half of some ups and downs, tricky, unexpected events, even chaos, or in the case of the Pisceans, hindrance, embarrassment or just not feeling “seen.”  All that gets alleviated for you now.

For LEOS, since you already have benefic Jupiter crossing your sign, this should not be so bad.  Because the nodes of the Moon, Rahu and Ketu, are “upagrahas” i.e. “planets with no body,” they absorb the energies of any planets with which they may be conjunct during a transit.  In other words, Rahu will be soaking up some of the benefic qualities of Jupiter! Nice.  Leo Rising and Moon sign people will thus feel more passion and intuition, a greater need for excitement and transformation, but that can be a good thing. Keep in mind, please, that Jupiter does move out of Leo and into Virgo on 8/11/16. Then you will have to deal with Rahu alone in your sign.

Aquarians must utilize the energy of Ketu now for going within, doing work behind the scenes, and having a more spiritual focus for the next 18 months.  That should be right up your alley.  There may be sudden “aha” moments, epiphanies of cosmic insights, if you cultivate an openness to receiving that type of guidance.

1/14/2016  The SUN moves into Capricorn for its one month voyage in this movable Earth sign.  The Sun typically is not so happy in this sign ruled by its enemy, Saturn.  It cannot feel as expansive as its nature would like here. Leo Rising and Moon sign people will find this time of year somewhat of a challenge as the ruler of their charts crosses their 6th house of delays, enemies, rivals, competitors, stress and health issues. So take care of yourself and have patience, as “this, too, shall change.”

1/14/2016 MERCURY backs up into Sagittarius, during its retrograde motion. You may get the opportunity to finish something important that you started in that earlier transit, but didn’t get to finish at that time, or get to the root of a problem that you had to put off dealing with before.  This represents “good houses” for both signs ruled by Mercury. For Virgos, it is the 4th house and for Geminis, it is the 7th, so that should help some, even though you are still dealing with the retrograde status of the lord of your charts.

1/18/2016 Benefic VENUS joins its friend Mercury in the fire sign Sagittarius.  The “Sags” get to feel all happy, playful and attractive for this period. Communication and social events will be the hallmark of this transit for you.
