Vedic Astrology: The Eclipses of JULY, 2019

July 3, 2019

July 2019  features some significant planetary action to report. (And yes, I’m late in posting this; chalk it up to my move on 6/30!)  Can you handle TWO eclipses, THREE retrograde planets and THREE planets combust (too close to) the Sun, all in the same month? If so, read away. And hey, “I don’t make the rules; I just work here.” Reporting what’s up so everyone can be prepared.

July 2nd featured the total SOLAR ECLIPSE. It was visible only in the South Pacific and parts of South America, mainly Chile and Argentina. Even though people here in the West run to catch a view of eclipses,  in Vedic Astrology, they are considered inauspicious. They symbolize one of the demon/Rakshasa nodes of the Moon (either Rahu or Ketu) trying to “swallow” and put out the Light and life of one of the luminaries, the Sun or Moon. This time it was Rahu (north node of the Moon), trying to swallow the SUN. But since the luminaries are immortal, they escape that grip. Generally effects are worse where an eclipse is visible. In ancient cultures they found that these celestial messengers, including comets and meteors, would symbolize war, the death of a beloved leader, or earth changes. Citizens were advised not to look at an eclipse, not to eat during one, nor to let their bodies be within the rays of the eclipsed Orb. According to Indian Vedic Astrologers I have worked with, the effects of an eclipse last from two weeks before to two weeks after. Some even say from one month before to one month after! Those who would feel the most impact from this eclipse are those with Leo Rising or Moon signs, as the Sun rules their charts. This occurred in the sign of Gemini, thus those with this Ascendant or Moon sign could have also experienced some low energy.

July 7th – MERCURY GOES RETROGRADE. Oh yes, here we go again. And it lasts until July 31st. Mercury is currently transiting water sign Cancer, along with Mars (which is in its sign of debilitation). For those ruled by Mercury, the Geminis and Virgos, at least this represent good house placements for them. Once again, everyone needs to bring to mind the need to be tactful and have diplomacy. But with fiery Mars conjunct the planet that represents communication, that will be a lot to overcome.  Be careful with all communication devices, or you could end up sending a text or email to an unintended person! The Mercurial natural sense of logic may be influenced by emotions now, due to going through the sign of Cancer. When a planet is retrograde the energy turns inward, more self reflective, or internalized. Saturn and Jupiter already have been retrograde for some time now. Problems and aggravations seem to be enhanced during these cycles. During these retrograde periods, we often have an opportunity to revisit and rework matters we thought we’d already completed or had a handle on. I guess a positive way to look at it is that retrogrades bring second chances.

July 8th – Benefic VENUS, currently in the sign of Gemini, along with Rahu and the Sun, now goes Combust, i.e. traveling too close to the Sun. This reduces its ability to be at its best in terms of generating the usual Venusian qualities that bless our lives: luxury, comforts, affection, pleasures and desires, as well as social behavior. Passion can still be there, with that Rahu conjunction, but be wary of making decisions in haste regarding relationships at this time.  This combustion lasts until September 19th, which is a long time for Venus to be so affected.

July 11th – MARS goes combust.  Tempers may flare, and as this planet represents the action priniciple,  deeds can be “done in haste” and repented later. Better to attempt to maintain equanimity despite such challenging planetary events this month, if possible. Stay cool, both physically and emotionally. A nice cool dip in the pool, or iced beverage may be just the thing to chill out some now.  Of course, if you have a beach trip planned, these various planet combination are apt to open the door to hurricanes or tropical storms, so stay on top of the weather reports, before you travel.  This Mars combust status lasts until August 8th. And of course Mars is currently sitting in Cancer, its sign of debilitation. It is just not at its best this month.

July 13th – MERCURY becomes the third planet this month in Combust status.  Ruling speech as it does, words may be said that one later regrets, added to the Mars-influenced actions mentioned above.  The Mercury combustion lasts until July 29th.

July 16th – SUN enters Cancer, joining Mars and Mercury there, and adding to the “heat” those with Cancer Rising or Moon signs are already feeling. At least it may be good for finances as the Sun rules the second house of wealth for Cancerians. That’s something.

July 16-17 – A partial LUNAR ECLIPSE occurs. MDT this will occur from 12:43 to 6:17 p.m.  However, we are fortunate not to have it visible here. Areas of visibility will be: Australia, S. America, most of Europe and Asia.  There will be some slight partial visibility in the very southern tip of Florida and uppermost eastern New England. The Moon represents mind and emotions, so when the light is “put out” for that brief time, those arenas get affected. It is a good time to dive deeply into some spiritual insights and reset one’s compass, if the need for that becomes apparent during one’s time of reflection.

July 23 – VENUS enters Cancer, stirring up romantic and affectionate feelings within those with this Rising or Moon sign.  Especially considered that Mars is already sitting there. This type of conjunction usually brings in romance!  The desire for comforts and luxuries may also increase for those born under this domestic, compassionate sign.

July 29th – Mercury becomes non-combust (see above).

July 30th – Mercury retrogrades all the way back into the previous sign, Gemini, which is its own sign, and it is comfortable there. This will assist the Gemini Rising and Moon sign people to gain some mental clarity, which Rahu traveling there has muddied to some degree.

July 31st – MERCURY GOES DIRECT MOTION. And on that cheery note ends the month of three combustions, three retrograde planets and two eclipses!  Communications and commerce can now roll forward with greater ease and success. Plus the Geminis and Virgos will feel more like themselves now.

February 2019 Planet Transits

February 1, 2019

MARS is featured this month, moving into fire sign ARIES on 2/05/19. This is its own sign, where its energy is strong and healthy.

I’m trying a new format this month, going through each Rising Sign (so I hope you know yours, in the Vedic Astrology system; if not, contact me for a reading).  I’ll discuss how each relevant planet’s situation will effect each Rising Sign (or if your natal Moon is that sign, as well).

First I’ll list the dates of planet transit shifts, then get into the discussion, below that:

2/05/19 – Mars in Aries, until 3/22/19.

2/06/19 – Mercury enters Aquarius, until 2/24. Then it enters Pisces, its sign of Debilitation.

2/12/19 – Sun will be in Aquarius until 3/14.

2/17/19 – Mercury is now out of combustion (being too close to the Sun), which is helpful to improve communications across the board, as well as improve tactfulness and diplomacy.

2/19/19 – Full Moon in LEO. This is a good placement for those with Cancer Rising, as it is their house of family, wealth and communication. It may bring Leos a more inward feeling, for it rules their 12th house of solitude or isolation.

2/24/19 – VENUS enters Capricorn.

Aries Rising – The Ruler of your chart moving into your 1st house of self, body and personality will serve to energize you, so your natural flow of ambition, courage, and feeling action-oriented will prevail. Watch for doing things too hastily now.  When the Sun enters Aquarius, that brings success to your house of income, gain and fulfillment of desires.  The full moon will be beneficial in a good house for you. Mercury’s contribution is also positive up until it enters your 12th house (Pisces) on 2/24.  Then your health and vitality may not feel at its peak.  Venus’ entry into Capricorn brings blessings to your career house.

Taurus Rising – The Mars transit through your 12th house (Aries) is not as positive. Expenses may get activated by this transit.  However when Venus, the ruler of your chart, enters Capricorn on 2/24, this is a great help, for it is moving from your house of vulnerability into the best house (9th), increasing your good luck and good fortune.  This will help you feel like yourself again.

Gemini Rising – Mars crossing your house of income nicely stimulates cash flow now.  The ruler of your chart, Mercury, getting out of the 8th house (vulnerabilities, transformation) and moving into Aquarius on 2/6, will restore a sense of connection with Natural Law and Dharma. Some travel may occur.  Then when Mercury enters Pisces 2/24, it is a boost to your career, and that will be your focus.  Mercury going non-combust on 2/17 is helpful to you on several levels.  Venus in Capricorn on 2/24, may increase some vulnerable feelings and affect your romantic relationships, which are already under some pressure with Saturn traveling through your 7th house since September, 2017.

Cancer Rising – The February transits of Mars, the Sun, and Mercury are all beneficial to you, in several ways, including career and income. The full moon will be auspicious for you, as well.  Venus once it is in Capricorn, is positive for your relationships.

Leo Rising – Mars in Aries is an improvement, as will be the Sun leaving your 6th house of conflict, enemies, rivals and competitors, to enter your 7th house of partners, marriage and travel on 2/12, making you feel closer to your partner. Mercury there is a plus as well. Once it moves into Pisces on 2/24, you will need to watch your spending, and may experience some skin or nerves issues.

Virgo Rising – Mars in Aries is not the most fun transit for you, as that is your 8th house of vulnerability.  Watch for getting “overheated” and your energy level may not be as great now, since Mars also rules your 3rd house of vitality.  Things are better with Mercury out of combustion on 2/17.  While Mercury transit Aquarius, your best use of this 6th house transit will be using your astute problem-solving abilities and being of service to others. It’s an easier time for you once it enters Pisces on 2/24, even if it is debilitated in that sign. Venus in Capricorn also on 2/24, is helpful to both your learning and teaching abilities, and contributes to your success. The full moon in Leo on 2/19 is your 12th house so their may be an inward or spiritual focus on that day, but be careful not to spend too much then.

Libra Rising – You will enjoy Mars lighting up your relationship house, which it owns. Nice. Especially after its less pleasant 6th house transit you’ve been experiencing.  Mercury while in Aquarius is positive, but once in Pisces, not as much fun. With your natural instinct for harmony and balance, you will get through that time.  Sun when in Aquarius, is also positive, for income and gain, which the full moon this month will also contribute to.  The ruler of your chart, Venus, going into Capricorn on 2/24, will connect you more with home, and friends, so that should be an enjoyable transit.

Scorpio – Mars in Aries…that is your 6th house, so you may find yourself confronting some inner or outer “enemies” or rivals, and perhaps feeling more feisty and competitive now. Mercury’s transits are both positive house placements for you. The full moon will be a good one, too, occurring in your 10th house of career and action. Venus has been fine for you where it is in Sagittarius, but will be a benefit to your vitality when it enters Capricorn.

Sagittarius – The Mars and Mercury transits are mostly positive this month, though you may have some issues with a child, with whom some anger could erupt. The full moon is auspicious, in your best house (9th). Sun in Aquarius is good for projects and getting things accomplished, using your hands. Venus moves into your 2nd house, helping to improve money matters 2/24. There is still task-master Saturn in your first house and it remains there until 1/20/20.

Capricorn – The Mars transit will be good for real estate matters for you, while it is in Aries, so that lasts well into next month. The Sun’s move into Aquarius takes some pressure off you as well, and is better for money issues. The full moon occurs in your 8th house so you may feel some emotional vulnerability or isolation at that time. Mercury’s transits will be okay for you. Once Venus enters your first house, that is a real highlight of the month for you, being good for the areas of career, success and romance. It remains there until 3/21. This may help some of the sting out of Saturn, the lord of your chart, still being in your 12th house of loss, expenses and isolation (until 1/20/20), as well as lunar node Ketu remaining in your 1st house until 3/23.

Aquarius – Aries brings you more energy this month.  The Sun crossing your first house may bring a partner closer to you. The same influence comes from the full moon in your 7th house of partners on 2/19. Mercury’s transits are good, first for a greater emphasis on romance, and making you feel sexy, and then once in Pisces, more focus on finances. Venus once in Capricorn 2/24, may bring foreign travel, greater spending or “bed pleasures.”

Pisces –  You will feel more comfortable with fiery Mars out of your 1st house of self and now in your 2nd house of wealth and communication. It can do you some good there, in those areas, but watch for letting irritation or anger creep into your communications.  Mercury in Aquarius is not such a good transit for partnerships, and you may also have some vehicle expenses. It’s better for you once it moves into Pisces on 2/24. On that day Venus moves to Capricorn, which is excellent for both energy and earnings.  The full moon occurs in your 6th house where it may increase some worries.

Just a reminder that your own personal planetary cycles (Dashas) carry more weight than most transits. Please consult me for a personal reading to see what those influences may be for you now. 720-448-3742.  Also, the big excitement occurs next month, when the lunar nodes, Rahu and Ketu change signs on 3/23. Stand by for the March report and how this big shift will affect you…it only occurs every 18 months.

December 2018 Planet Blog

December 4, 2018

How have you all been surviving this latest bout of Mercury Retrograde? Well, hang on just a bit longer, for Mercury will go Direct motion at 2:19 p.m. Mountain time on Thursday, December 6 – and not a moment too soon, eh?

12/02/18 – Mercury becomes non-combust. So it will be now be traveling far enough away from the Sun not to have its qualities burnt to a crisp. This further improves communications, just as Mercury is getting out of Retrograde on 12/06/18. This will be a big forward boost of progress to greater clarity and understanding for all.  As usual, those whose Rising signs or Moon signs are ruled by Mercury (Gemini and Virgo) stand to benefit the most.

12/09/18 – JUPITER becomes non-combust the Sun. Thus this great benefic’s power to do good now increases. Those with Sagittarius or Pisces Rising or Moon signs will greatly benefit, as will the Scorpios, since Jupiter has been traveling through this friend’s sign for some time. The damper that the combustion created on good luck and good fortune in general since 11/11/18 now lifts. Enjoy!

12/15/18 – The Sun enters Sagittarius. This one month transit is beneficial for Leos, who are ruled by the Sun, as this is a friend’s sign and their 5th house of success, education, children, and love affairs for the Leos. Sags benefit, too, as the Sun rules their 9th house of good fortune and brings many good qualities to them. Of course it will be traveling here with its enemy Saturn, which has been causing a lot of snags, delays and obstacles for my Sagittarius Rising or Moon chart friends since 10/26/17.  Having both Sun and Saturn here will be a type of “push/pull” energy for them, with Saturn wanting things to move slowly, but the Sun wants to put Sags into the leadership driver’s seat now. This can cause internal conflicts at time, and literal headaches unless you meditate or employ stress reduction techniques.

12/16/18 – Saturn goes combust the Sun. And here we were just speaking of Saturn! Not only is it now conjunct its enemy, the Sun, but they will be traveling in close enough proximity for Saturn to feel chafed and irritable. This is not great news for the Capricorns and Aquarians, ruled by this hermit planet. It’s already been a challenging transit for Capricorns with Saturn traveling through their 12th house of loss and expenses (gulp), and considering it ALSO rules their second house of wealth as well as their first house of self, body and personality, this just adds to the discomfort, as well as impacting their material fortunes. Sorry about that, Cap friends, but as the old saying goes, “You are no stranger to misfortune.” Your determination, strength and perseverance will get you through these times.

12/22/18 – Full Moon in Gemini. The height of its fullness takes place right at 11:00 a.m. Mountain time. The effects are mixed for the Cancerians, who are ruled by the Moon for this is their 12th house of loss and expense, seclusion or isolation. The energy can be harnessed in a positive manner, of course, by going on meditation retreats, enjoying deep meditations or spiritual experiences, foreign travels and bed pleasures.  For Geminis, it should bring prosperity your way, so enjoy.

12/23/18 – MARS moves into Pisces. The signs ruled by Mars are affected in the following ways: It’s beneficial for Scorpios, as this is their 5th house of success. For those with Aries Ascendant or Moon signs, this is the 12th house of loss and expense. It would be good for foreign travel or working on Enlightenment but otherwise, you could feel isolated or prefer solitude now.

12/31/18 – Mercury enters Sagittarius. Now we’ll have three planets in this fire sign. Mercury joins the Sun and Saturn there. Sag people will be juggling both a sense of wanting to be verbal, have fun, talk with friends and be expressive (Mercury) with a more serious, responsibility-driven energy provided by Saturn. And the Sun there will help them to keep taking charge and making strides in their usual creative way.

Vedic Astrology Planets of July 2018: TWO Eclipses This Month

July 1, 2018

Greetings, Star Gazers!  Wishing you a happy July 4th celebration as the summer progresses. Let’s see what the stars are up to this month. There are some significant events to report. As ever, if you need personal insight on your individual situation, please call me for a session. My readings can give precise details on timing and answer your questions. See info on the type of services I provide, below.

July 4th – VENUS enters Leo, bringing those with this fire sign Rising or Moon the sweetness of affection, romance, and good fortune, as Venus rules their 9th house. Enjoy!  Venus rules the signs of Libra and Taurus. For the Libras, this is a nice, helpful transit of their 11th house of income, gain and fulfillment of desire, so no complaints there. For Taureans it’s their 4th house of friends, real estate, the comforts of home, so it should be a pleasant cycle for them as well.

July 10th – JUPITER goes Direct! This is good news for the Sagittarius and Pisces Rising and Moon sign people, whose signs it rules. Now things can begin to have a “moving forward” feeling. Sweet. This has been a long period of Retrograde status for this great benefic planet, as that started all the way back on March 8th. Jupiter remains in Libra until October 11th, 2018, when it enters Scorpio. More on that bridge, once we cross it.

July 13th – This partial Solar eclipse occurs in the air sign of Gemini. It will be visible in Australia and the Indian and Pacific oceans. It’s mainly the areas of visibility that feel the most impact of any given eclipse. Though the Leo Ascendants and Moon sign people may not feel so comfortable on that day, as the “Light” of this luminary is being partially hidden. We are fortunate that it will not be visible in the USA. (see more on eclipses, below).

July 16th – The SUN moves into water sign Cancer for its one month transit through this friend’s sign. This is helpful to Cancer Rising and Moon sign people as it can serve to connect them more with family, wealth and provides stronger communication energy for them. However, for the Leos, whose sign the Sun rules, that is their 12th house of loss, expenses, isolation, seclusion, foreign travel and “bed pleasures.” Thus it can be a good month for meditating, going inward to balance and get clear on what they want….and enjoy the foreign travel if you have a way to make that happen!

July 25th – MERCURY GOES RETROGRADE. Is that groaning I hear from afar here? Yes, we’re in for it again. Let’s remember it is not just the signs ruled by Mercury that get affected (Virgo and Gemini) but this planet governs for all, the realms of commerce, diplomacy and tactfulness, as well as communication and any equipment related to same.  Mercury has been transiting the sign of Cancer. This retrograde period lasts until August 18th, causing Mercury to remain in Cancer until September 2nd.  For Cancerians, due to the houses it rules for them, this can bring both spiritual influences as well as keeping them active with projects including writing.  At least this sign represents positive houses for both the Virgos and Geminis.

July 27th – Total LUNAR eclipse – This one is visible in South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia, so that is where the biggest impact will be felt. The Moon governs mind and emotions, travel, prosperity and the public. I have a feeling that recent tariffs could cause further ripples in foreign markets around this time, as well as social unrest in these areas.  The eclipse occurs in earth sign Capricorn, where the Moon will be conjunct with Ketu, the south node of the Moon, as well as the very strong exalted Mars. This increases the chances for anger, restlessness and irritability to be felt and expressed, in a no-holds-barred sort of way. Both the Cancer and Capricorn Ascendants and Moon sign people will feel this one. It’s especially impactful for the Cancerians, as the Moon rules their charts.

We should remember, too, that eclipses give their influence from two weeks before to two weeks after they occur (one Indian Jyotishi told me that could even be from one month before and after they occur).

To explain more the significance of eclipses, I’ll quote from another Vedic Astrologer, Tara Divine who sums it up well: “As the ancient Indian legend goes, an eclipse occurs when the shadowy demon Rahu Ketu gets his revenge on the Sun and the Moon by consuming them and stealing their luminous rays. Their pure, creative energy gets twisted and dark during the eclipse and for a few days after. This myth does not exactly conjure a heart warming mental image, and that’s intentional.

The truth, according to Vedic Astrology, is that eclipses can be a terrible time to start or end projects, relationships, jobs, or any other important thing in the material world. This is because auspicious beginnings are blessed with light, ideally the light of a healthy, full Moon and the daytime Sun. With Rahu and Ketu gobbling up this light and warping it in unseen ways, anything you start could turn out very strangely, and you may regret ending something as well…

Eclipses are a great time to stay in, meditate, and do your inner work.  In fact, they provide an especially rich opportunity to connect with spirit because the ‘veils’ are thin.”

April Planet Transits: Mercury Retrograde Until 4/15/18

April 1, 2018

3/31/18 Brings us a Blue Moon, in Virgo.

What a nice way to segue into April. The energies of Moon in Virgo are calming, bringing more logic and deductive skills out in the collective mind. Virgos get to enjoy their 11th house ruler, bringing income and gain their way, and fulfillment of desire.

SATURN is such a slow moving planet, that it’s been some time since I’ve written about its travels and how that affects the signs it rules, Capricorn and Aquarius, so it seems only fair to focus on that some.  Since 10/26/17 Saturn has been crossing the sign of Sagittarius. This is the 12th house for those with Capricorn Rising or Moon charts.  This house is all about loss, expenses, isolation or seclusion. Caps do need to watch their spending now, and do their best to push themselves out into the crowd to mingle with fellow humans, to avoid feeling the worst impacts of loneliness, which this transit can bring.  Going on spiritual retreats is advised now, as that is an excellent way to utilize the potential for Enlightenment that a 12th house transit also provides.

For Aquarians, Saturn, the lord of their chart, is traveling through their 11th house, so it can bring income and gain their way, with less effort than previously, so it is a positive experience, for the most part.

SAGITTARIUS is playing host to Saturn. That can bring the ability to focus and work hard for those with this Rising or Moon sign.  Life may seem somewhat hectic, too, with all the responsibilities that Saturn brings. Since MARS has also been transitting this fire sign since March 7th, and Mars and Saturn are enemies, there may be feelings of being pushed in one direction and pulled in the opposite direction. Definitely a “hurry up, and then wait” sensation. Mars will remain in this sign until May 2nd, so the internal angst can ease up some then.

4/08/18 – Mercury gets out of combustion with the Sun. This improves communications and tactful interactions overall, and brings relief to those with either Gemini or Virgo Rising or Moon signs, which are ruled by Mercury.

4/13/18 – The SUN enters Aries, where it experiences Exalted dignity.  The Leos, who are ruled by the Sun, will enjoy this exalted status, especially as Aries represents their 9th house of good luck, good fortune, remedies, pilgrimage and Natural Law.  For those with Aries Ascendants or Moon sign people, the Sun rules their 5th house of success, romance, and educations, highlighting these qualities in their lives now.

4/15/18 – MERCURY GOES DIRECT.  As usual, this brings relief to interpersonal communications. Did you notice any snags with technical equipment or anything related to correspondence during this time?  Virgos and Geminis can experience forward movement now, in their projects and career.

4/17/18 – SATURN goes retrograde. Its malefic qualities get stronger when it is in retrograde status. This can bring some feelings of depression or being down to those with Sagittarius Rising or especially with that Moon sign, as they are in Sadhe Sati at this time, and have to deal with obstacles, delays and hard work, during this cycle anyway. Now add the retrograde condition…so try to nurture and take care of yourselves at this time! It will stay retrograde until 9/06/18.

4/19/18 – VENUS enters Taurus, its own sign, where it is happy and powerful. This brings more comforts and luxuries to those with Taurus Rising or Moons, including the enjoyment of the arts, beauty or music. For Libras, also ruled by Venus, this is an 8th house transit…which is all about Transformation, and can also bring them some vulnerability. Venus remains here until May 14th.

Remember that for any difficult transit or dasha period (personal planetary cycle) there are ancient Vedic remedies known as Yagyas, which I can describe to you, to alleviate some layers of obstacles. These are most beneficial for “engineering the karma” away from the owner of the chart.

All the best, from the Sunshine Corner, here in Boulder, CO.  Tel: 720-448-3742.  Thank you for any referrals you may send me.  I offer many services such as: natal chart readings, yearly updates, couples compatibility or astrocartography (location) readings.  If you would like to book an appointment for yourself, or as a gift for a family member or dear one, please call me, and we can schedule a 90 minutes, taped session.  Thank you, Mary Stevenson, Vedic Astrologer, healingevents@yahoo.com

The Vedic Planets of February, 2018

February 1, 2018

February arrives, with the “bang” of that total lunar eclipse on January 31st, opening the door.

The lunar eclipse occurred in Cancer, which is ruled by the Moon. Malefic Rahu, north node of the Moon, briefly “swallowed” this luminary that rules the night sky, putting out its light in a symbolic gesture.  Cancerians especially (those with Cancer Ascendants or Moon signs) would have felt this especially strong energy. But as we know, the darkness can never permanently drown out the Light, so once again that bright “super moon” is shining proudly in the night sky.  Many people could feel somewhat emotionally disoriented and out of balance, even the normally stable and solid type of personalities. Total eclipses of the Moon or Sun can have the after-effects of energetically triggering earth changes, governmental upsets, civil unrest, military strife, and the like.

2/05/2018 – VENUS enters air sign Aquarius.  Those with this very cerebral Rising sign or Moon sign may warm up and show some affection now. Venus is the BEST planet for both Capricorns and Aquarians, due to the houses in their charts that it respectively rules.  The “planet pile up” which has been going on in Capricorn for some time, is now beginning to shift into Aquarius, starting with Venus.  You may as well consider Venus your “lucky star,” if you have this Ascendant or Moon sign, since it rules your 9th house of good luck, good fortune, destiny, dharma and natural law, plus remedies and pilgrimages. The doors to any of these arenas can open wide for you now. That is why wearing a diamond is good for you, the astrological stone that represents Venus.

2/12/2018 – The SUN joins Venus in Aquarius today.  For those with Leo Rising or Moon signs, this is a time when the ruler of their chart enters their 7th house of partners, travel and business. Deepening a relationship could be on your mind if Leo is your sign in Vedic Astrology.  Vice versa for the Aquarians; it will be their 7th ruler now crossing their first house, bringing partners to them.  What with Venus already there, seems like there will be no escaping SOME kind of interaction with others, for all those Aquarians who normally prefer their own space or spiritual solitude. I’ve known a few like that.

2/14/2018 – MERCURY enters Aquarius. What did I tell you? One more planet playmate for Venus and Sun, already traveling through this fixed air sign. The party expands for the Aquarians. Mercury here can make them feel more talkative and friendly.  For Virgos, ruled by Mercury, this is their 6th house. There may be some obstacles or stress to push through. It could be anxiety over taxes, delays of something they’d counted on, etc.  Since Mercury also rules the Virgo 10th house of career, if they happen to have a counseling or medical career, this can at least enhance their counseling or problem-solving business or bring in more clients. For Geminis, the other sign ruled by Mercury, this is a better placement.  It is their 9th house, which brings better luck and more ease and blessings in life. Happy Valentine’s Day!

2/15/2018 – Partial Solar Eclipse. This is visible only from Antarctica and southern South America.  It occurs in the sign of Aquarius, which now has Sun, Moon, Venus and Mercury transiting there.  This creates a VERY outgoing mixture for the Aquarians, though any eclipse can bring a little bump in the road. Eclipses are NOT auspicious, but most of that energy goes to the areas on Earth where they are visible.

2/19/2018 – VENUS is finally non-combust the Sun.  It had been traveling too close to this fiery orb since January 1st, causing some irritation in the lives of the Taurus and Libra Rising and Moon sign folks. Now they can rejoice with more smooth sailing and their normal love of life and all things beautiful and sensual.

January, 2018 – Planets in the Vedic Sky

January 2, 2018

First, an overview of highlights for 2018, and then I’ll touch on the planet moves for January.

Cancer Rising and Moon sign folks will have to make peace with all the changes that Rahu passing through that sign will bring them throughout 2018.  Cancerians enjoy the peaceful pleasures of home life, but Rahu likes to cause chaos and unexpected events. Change is the “constant” for the year ahead, and possible dealings with “foreigners.” Rahu also stands for transformation, so we can visualize positive changes, if we are willing to embrace growth.

Across the zodiac, those with Capricorn Ascendants or Moon signs are experiencing the transit of Ketu, the south node of the Moon, through their sign. It stands for “hindrance and degradation” so there may be much soul-searching going on, some shyness, and even psychic experiences. Ketu can also bring a sudden mobilization of energy and a sudden manifestation of events. It is the other half of Rahu, the cosmic serpent, so unrest is likely, but again, can be used as a tool for greater understanding of one’s deeper nature, and for growth, if we decide to not resist the experiences it is sure to bring.  In addition, SATURN, ruler of Capricorn, is passing through their 12th house of isolation, seclusion, loss and expenses. This also can bring a focus on spiritual development and enlightenment.

Scorpios are enjoying a nice break now that Saturn finally moved from their sign on 10/26/2017. That is the first time for Scorpios to be free of the heaviness and restrictions Saturn can bring, for the previous 2.5 years. There are more good things to look forward to in the coming year, depending on the transits of Mars, lord of your chart (watch my blog posts, or get a yearly reading with me), and the icing on the cake is benefic Jupiter, friend of Mars, moving into Scorpio on 10/11/2018.

For Libras, Jupiter is not their best planet, based on the houses it rules. Until it moves out of their sign on 10/11/2018, it will bring more work, service to perform, and various projects. That won’t wear you out, but keep you busy, for sure. You’ll have to watch for weight fluctuations if you have Libra Rising or Moon sign.

Sagittarians now have the weight of Saturn on their sign, where it will stay for about 2.5 more years. This brings a more serious disposition to this normally fun-loving sign. It can bring money (rules their 2nd house) but lots of responsibilities and duties, and there’s just no getting around that.  Some may even have bouts of depression, but staying active, finding ways to help others, would be a good remedy for that.

ECLIPSES in 2018: January 31 = total lunar eclipse; February 15 = partial solar eclipse; July 13 = partial solar eclipse; July 27 = total lunar eclipse; August 11 = partial solar eclipse. I will describe each of these more fully, as I get to the monthly blog posts for those months.

JANUARY 2018 Transits: (to fully understand what they mean for YOU, it’s best to book a yearly reading with me. Call 720-448-3742).

1/01/2018 – We begin with a FULL MOON in Gemini. Cancerians (ruled by the Moon) may feel more inward, or even a little lonely or isolated, as this is a 12th house transit for them. On the other hand (a saying Geminis are very fond of…) they may feel a lot of spiritual fullness within as they use this time to meditate or reflect on where they are and the kind of year they’ve just experienced, coming through the challenges triumphantly. A la that song, “I’m still standing!” ♪

1/01/2018 – Both Saturn and Venus go combust the Sun today. This could bring some heightened edginess or easy irritability for the signs ruled by these planets: respectively, Capricorn, Aquarius, Taurus and Libra. Saturn goes non-combust on 1/07/2018.  Venus goes non-combust on 2/19/2018.

1/06/2018 – MERCURY moves into Sagittarius. This is a welcomed position for those with Gemini Rising or Moon signs, as the ruler of their charts now shifts from the house of health problems, to the 7th house of business, partnership and travel. For Virgos, also ruled by Mercury, this is the 4th house of home, friends, vehicles, and self confidence, so it is also a good position.

1/13/2018 – VENUS enters Capricorn.  This is a friend’s sign so Venus is happy there. Good for both signs that Venus rules: for Taureans it will now be in their 9th house of good luck, good fortune, dharma, remedies and Natural Law. For Librans, this is their 4th house of comforts, home, friends, vehicles, self-confidence.

1/14/2018 – now the SUN joins Venus in Capricorn (which is one reason Venus is still combust into February, as they are traveling so close together now) This is not a friend’s sign for the Sun, which rules LEO. It is their 6th house of enemies, rivals, competitors, stress, worries, and health issues for our Leo friends, so they will have to wade through some of the above for a one month period now.

1/16/2018 – MARS happily enters Scorpio, its own sign, filling those who have this Rising or Moon sign with energy, courage, drive, initiative and the like. The only thing to watch for is possible bursts of anger or irritability, if things don’t happen as fast as you would like. Speaking of speed, better slow down, to avoid a speeding ticket during this transit! For the Aries Rising and Moon signs, also ruled by Mars, well…that is their 8th house, so there may be some vulnerability and changes to deal with.

1/26/2018 – MERCURY goes combust the Sun. This cycle in which a planet travels too close to the Sun (which makes a planet grouchy, angry, more reactive than normal) occurs more frequently for Mercury than any other planet, because it habitually travels closer to the Sun than the rest.  You may feel the subtle effects of just being more sensitive or reactive to things you normally would let roll off your back.  It can be helpful to employ meditative techniques to maintain your equilibrium and peace of mind during these cycles.

1/27/2018 – MERCURY enters Capricorn,  joining the Sun, Venus and Ketu in this Earth sign. Capricorn Rising and Moon sign people have a lot to juggle now, with many projects keeping them busy, some vulnerability brought to them by the Sun (ruler of their 8th house) but also some playfulness which Mercury and Venus traveling together generally bring to the party. This is the 8th house for Geminis, which represents vulnerability and transformation. It is the 5th house of education and success for Virgos, the other sign ruled by Mercury, so a better deal for the Virgos.

1/31/2018 – Total Lunar Eclipse, occurring in the sign of Cancer, which is ruled by the Moon. Those with Cancer Ascendants or Moon signs can expect to feel more sensitive than normal, as Rahu tries to “put out the light” of this luminary. Moon represents mind and emotions so can effect the clarity of one’s mental and emotional level now.  This eclipse will be visible in the USA, thus it has more impact on Americans. Here are all the areas of visibility for this one: western North America, North/East Europe, North/East Africa, Asia, Australia, South America, Antarctica,  the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans.  It is interesting that our current president was born during a total lunar eclipse, so I will be watching to see how this one affects him.  It occurs in his 12th house of loss.

This is a perfect time to have your yearly Vedic Astrology reading with me, to see what the year ahead holds for YOU.  Wishing the blessings of the planets to you, from the Sunshine Corner, in Boulder, CO.  Tel. 720-448-3742 (cell); or 928-284-4060 (home).  Thank you for your referrals.

October Planets: SATURN moves at last, on the 26th

October 2, 2017

Autumn greetings to you all, from a chilly and rainy Boulder, Colorado. I hope you are feeling blessed as this new season arrives.

Let’s go right to the main attraction of planet movements this month, since this event occurs only every 2.5 years.

10/26 – SATURN MOVES INTO SAGITTARIUS!  My many friends with Moon in Scorpio will be so glad to feel that weight lifting off of them, after its 2.5 year stay in that sign. Oh, Saturn briefly entered Sagittarius earlier, from 1/26 to 6/20 but then went retrograde to once again tap dance on the Scorpio Moon minds and hearts, which the Moon represents. It will be a blessed relief for those of you with a natal Scorpio Moon to finally go into the last third of your 7.5 year Sadhe Sati period, i.e. just not as intense for you.

So what about us?, you Sag Moon people are thinking, yes? Well, at least Saturn rules your second house of wealth, so can bring some money to you — but it will be the hard way, through work and service, and you can expect it to come with delays, snags and obstacles. If your natal Moon is in Sagittarius, you may also experience some grief during the next few years. Sometimes that is not related to anything going on in the outer world. This placement can simply bring internal angst and feelings of isolation, etc.  Sadhe Sati gives an opportunity to look deep within at what really matters in this life, and become more detached and philosophical. Try to use this period to your advantage, in terms of spiritual growth.

And now back to our regular order of business:

10/09 – VENUS enters Virgo. It is in this Earth sign that Venus experiences debilitation, i.e. not as strong here. Thus the signs it rules, Taurus and Libra, will  not feel as robust as usual, perhaps. Especially for the Libras, it is not such a good placement as Virgo represents your twelfth house of loss, expenditure and isolation. But it can be a good time to go inward and perhaps attend a meditation course or retreat. For Taureans, it is a good house placement at least, as the fifth house connects you to children, lovers, success in the relative world or speculative matters, plus education.

10/12 – JUPITER goes combust the Sun. This great benefic recently entered the air sign of Libra (on 9/11).  It rules the sign of Pisces, so this placement in the Pisceans’ eighth house can bring vulnerability on the physical level and transformation. Parts of life as you knew it will undergo changes, ready or not, Pisces friends. For the Sagittarians, the other sign it rules, this placement is in your eleventh house of income and gain, so it’s a better scene for you. Take advantage of this placement to ask for a raise, or buy a property, for Jupiter also owns you fourth house of real estate. For the host sign of Libra, well, Jupiter does not rule your best houses. It can bring you some energy, but also some stress and worry. Also, you will have to be careful not to put on extra weight for the year that Jupiter will be in your first house!  Being combust the Sun makes a planet more irritable and not able to give its best significations. This condition lasts for Jupiter until November 9th.

10/13 – MARS enters Virgo. Here it joins Venus, the Sun and Mercury. So it’s a four planet party for the Virgos. Mars adds more ambition, energy and action to the mix, but also, since it owns the eighth house for Virgos, some vulnerability. Be careful of doing things too fast, which can lead to accidents. Also try to avoid being more quarrelsome than usual, as Mars can represent anger and irritability. Mars rules Aries and Scorpio. Virgo is the eleventh house of gain and income for the Scorpios so good for you, in that department. For Aries, this represents your sixth house of health problems, stress and worry, so take measures to maintain your health, and meditate for relaxation and to avoid the stress this period may bring.

10/13 – MERCURY also moves a little later on this day, into a friend’s sign, Libra.  This is a mixed blessing for the Libras, as governing your ninth house of good luck and good fortune, remedies, pilgrimage and natural law, it can bring those qualities to enjoy in practical ways in your every day life. However, it also governs your twelfth house of loss and expenses. Thus you will have a mutual exchange of houses now, with the lord of your chart, Venus, sitting in the twelfth house and ruler of the twelfth house, Mercury, in your first house of self, body and direction of your life. You can make a lot of spiritual progress now if you focus on that. The other choices are foreign travel or “bed pleasures”!

For Geminis, Mercury here is in the fifth house of success, education, children, so it’s a nice placement for you. For Virgo, the other sign ruled by Mercury, this is your second house of family, wealth and communication, so also a good placement.

10/17 – The SUN enters Libra today. This is its sign of debilitation where it is weakest. For the Leos, which the Sun rules, this represents the third house of short journeys, projects, and vitality. It’s not a bad placement and you will still feel fairly ambitious. For the Libras, this planet rules your house of gain, so it can act in a positive fashion to bring you better income or gain of any item for the next month.

10/26 – As discussed above, SATURN enters Sagittarius.

10/31 – HAPPY HALLOWEEN! MERCURY goes non-combust the Sun, so Geminis and Virgos will enjoy some relief from that condition, and communication for everyone should improve.  Mercury had been combust since September 21. May the planets now bring you many “treats” and fewer tricks!

Blessings of the planets to you, from the Sunshine Corner in Boulder, CO.  Tel. 928-284-4060.  Thank you for any referrals you may send me.  I offer many services such as: natal chart readings, yearly updates, couples compatibility or astrocartography (location) readings.  If you would like to book an appointment for yourself, or as a gift for a family member or dear one, please call me, and we can schedule a 90 minute, taped session.  Thank you, Mary Stevenson, Vedic Astrologer, healingevents@yahoo.com. vedicstarcharts.com

Big Planet Changes for September, 2017 – Mercury is out of Retrograde

September 6, 2017

The Sunshine Corner has moved back to Boulder, Colorado! I look forward to providing my Vedic Astrology services to you from this fair city. My contact info remains the same.

There’s a lot to discuss with some major planets shifting this month, starting with:

9/02/17 – Mercury got out of combustion with the Sun, easing the way for smoother communications and especially helping our Gemini and Virgo friends.

9/05/17 – Mercury went Direct motion! This is of even greater importance to the Geminis and Virgos, whose signs are ruled by this planet, so they really feel it whenever Mercury is Retrograde.  In addition, Mercury governs commerce (buying and selling) so things should flow more smoothly for those engaged in commerce, plus it governs communication in general, thus by extension our communication devices, the intellect, and friendships. It also signifies tactfulness and diplomacy. Expect improvements in all of the above areas now.

9/08/17 – RAHU and KETU CHANGE SIGNS!  These are the north and south nodes of the Moon, respectively.  They only move every 18 months, and always in a backwards direction.  I am aware that some empheris users see this movement as occurring on Sept. 9th, but what my software shows is just about 6:00 p.m. Mountain Daylight time for the shift of Rahu into Cancer and Ketu into Capricorn.  The effects are too detailed to mention in this report.  Suffice it to say that those with Leo or Aquarius Rising, Moon or Sun signs will feel some relief, as Rahu and Ketu finally move out of their signs after 18 months.  Those with Cancer Rising, Moon or Sun signs are in for a lot of changes, with Rahu standing for “transformation.” Get ready to turn on a dime, Cancerians, and don’t become too attached to your well-laid plans right now.  Ketu brings more intuition to the Capricorns, but it does also stand for “hindrance and degradation” so they could be in for a time of feeling invisible to some degree, and some embarrassing situations are bound to arise. Either that, or dealing with some situations that arise from past karma.

9/11/17 – Another of our slower-moving planets, benefic Jupiter moves on this date, from Virgo, into the air sign of Libra. He only moves about every 12.5 to 13 months, so this is another big shift of planet energy occurring in September.  Jupiter governs the signs of Sagittarius and Pisces. For the Pisceans, this new position represents the 8th house of transformation, vulnerability, battles and “disunion.”  This could represent internal changes, or changes in aspects of the outer life, including career, as Jupiter governs their 10th house of career. It’s a better setup for the “Sags” as this is their 11th house of gain and income. For Librans, Jupiter does not rule the very best houses, so they may experience some “mixed results.” Having to watch out for weight gain, would be one of them!

9/14/17 – VENUS moves into LEO, bringing its pleasure-seeking, comfort-loving ways to this fire sign.  This move takes place close to midnight MDT, therefore won’t be experienced until the next day in time zones to the east of us here in Boulder.  Because of the houses Venus owns from the viewpoint of Leo Ascendants and Moon sign people, they should feel a nice boost of energy and be more active now, as well as enjoy indulging in their favorite comforts and luxuries. Venus rules Taurus and Libra. The Taureans get to enjoy pleasant times at home, entertaining friends and family; also the possibility is there to enjoy some new vehicle.  For Librans, this is their 11th house of gain, income and fulfillment of desire, so it will also represent positive experiences for them during this transit, which lasts until October 9th.

9/16/17  – TWO planet changes happen this date: MARS gets out of combustion with the Sun (good news for Aries and Scorpios, to feel less pressured and irritated), plus the SUN enters Virgo.  The Sun in this practical, logical Earth sign, brings warmth to the land as we move into the harvest season. Virgos may feel a bit more inward now, as the Sun rules their 12th house of solitude and isolation. They will need to watch their spending habits now. Leos will enjoy having the lord of their chart passing through the 2nd house of wealth, speech and family, enlivening these important areas of life.

9/21/17 – Once again Mercury goes combust the Sun, i.e. traveling too close to the fiery orb for comfort. Thus all that Mercury signifies could get “singed” a little, from diplomacy and tactfulness, to communication and clear thinking.

9/26/17 – Mercury will be so much happier to move into VIRGO today, which is its own sign. This strengthens the logical, clear thinking aspects of all who are ruled by this planet, those with Gemini or Virgo Ascendants or Moon signs.  Mercury stays in this sign until October 13th.

JULY, 2017 – Planet Movements in the Vedic Sky

July 3, 2017

For the Summer, your Sunshine Corner is enjoying Boulder, CO, where I lived for 18 years. Great to be seeing so many friends here again. So if you are in Colorado and want an in-person reading with me while I’m here, please call me. 928-284-4060 or 928-821-6946. Thanks and starry blessings.

How’s everyone feeling now that Saturn has retrograded back into the sign of Scorpio?  It seems like my friends with a Scorpio natal Moon are feeling it the most. A reading can tell exactly how this sometimes severe “Tester” may affect you during this transit. At least it is better for the Capricorns, to have the ruler of their charts once again crossing the house of gain and income instead of its earlier time in Sagittarius, the house of loss and expenditure for them.

July 2nd – MERCURY entered Cancer where it will stay until July 20th.  This is a nice setup for the Gemini Rising and Moon chart folks to connect with family, friends, and funds. There should be a nice flow of communication and cash coming in from this transit. For the Virgos, also ruled by Mercury, it is also a positive placement. Mercury here connects them to gain, income and fulfillment of desires.  Enjoy it while it lasts!  It’s a bit of a mixed blessing for the Cancerians, whose sign is hosting Mercury. It can bring 12th house losses, expenditures, some isolation, but also energize the desire to communicate or write, including some contact with siblings, which should be positive, in most cases.

July 3rd – MERCURY goes non-combust the Sun, which is beneficial for Geminis, Virgos and most everyone’s communication, which can now flow more easily and we can all feel more understanding as we interact with others.

July 11th – MARS enters Cancer, its sign of debilitation. This annual event brings out the worst in Mars, though it MAY bring some energy to Cancer Ascendant and Moon people, as it is their Yogakaraka, or best planet.  The negative end of the spectrum of Mars energy can show up as irritation, quarrlesomeness, anger, restlessness. So for those ruled by this fiery malefic, Scorpio and Aries, these are some qualities you may experience until Mars moves into Leo on August  26th.  When not at its best, Mars can cause rash actions, ambition that goes out of bounds in terms of civility. You get the picture.  Stay cool, figuratively and literally, to control this overheated time now.

July 16th –  The SUN enters Cancer. Here it is in a friend’s sign for a one month period.  Those with Leo Rising or Moon signs may enjoy some foreign travel now, or going on a retreat or meditation course.  The Cancerians should find this placement good for bringing in more cash and greater closeness with some family members.

July 20th – MERCURY enters Leo on this date, helping to make the Lions of the zodiac more talkative.  It is a helpful transit for them, too, for attracting income, gain, various financial dealings going well, etc.  For Geminis, the ruler of their charts now passing through third house brings on more projects to keep their minds and sharp intellects busy.  For Virgos, also ruled by Mercury, it is not so positive a transit, as feelings of isolation may come up, and not as much action on the career level, as they would desire.

July 26th – VENUS transits Gemini now, and this lasts until August 20th.  This helps the sign of the Twins feel more social and playful, and may bring some romance to the front burner.  It can increase business for the Virgos.  It’s good for Taureans, ruled by this great benefic Venus, to have it crossing their 2nd house of wealth, family and communication.  It is a great improvement for Librans, also ruled by Venus, to have the lord of their chart get out of the 8th (most challenging) house of transformation and vulnerability where nothing feels very stable or steady, to now go into their 9th (best) house of good luck, good fortune, Natural Law, Pilgrimages and remedies.

The following two months are going to be real doozies, with so much intense planetary energy happening then. We have the two eclipses in August to deal with, and the one on August 21st will be a TOTAL solar eclipse, visible in the USA, so we get the impact of that.  Mercury will go retrograde on August 12th and combust the Sun on August 19th.  Saturn will go Direct motion on August 25th.

September brings sign changes for the two nodes of the Moon (Rahu and Ketu) on the 9th and Jupiter moves to Libra on September 11th.  These are significant shifts for planets which only change signs every 18 months and 12 to 13 months, respectively. Let’s see what it will mean for you.

Blessings of the planets to you, from the Sunshine Corner.  Tel: 928-284-4060.  Thank you for any referrals you may send me.  I offer many services such as: natal chart readings, yearly updates, couples compatibility or astrocartography (location) readings.  If you would like to book an appointment for yourself, or as a gift for a family member or dear one, please call me, and we can schedule a 90 minute session.  Thank you, Mary Stevenson, Vedic Astrologer, healingevents@yahoo.com. vedicstarcharts.com
