September Skies: Vedic Astrology Blog by Mary Stevenson
September 4, 20169/17/16 – MARS ENTERS SAGITTARIUS! Finally this long ordeal that has been going on since 7/12/16, with Mars transiting Scorpio in conjunction with Saturn, will be over. Both planets will breath their respective signs of relief. This has not been an easy transit especially, for those with Aries Rising or Moon signs, since Scorpio represents their 8th house of vulnerability, battles and disunion, transformation, life and death. It will be such a blessing for the ruler of your sign to now enter your 9th “best” house in your chart and bring you support of Nature, good luck and good fortune.

Planets of MAY: Jupiter Out of Retrograde on May 9th
May 7, 2016How are the planets treating you this month? To me, it’s been like a case of “planetary bumper cars” – in other words, rather jarring. I never liked bumper cars, as a child. One of my spiritual teachers said “Your chart is your curse,” and by that he meant, that all the karma we souls have taken on in this particular incarnation can be seen in our charts, including our strengths and talents. (Currently Mercury, Mars, Saturn, Jupiter are still all in retrograde motion; Venus and Mercury are combust the Sun).
May 9th – JUPITER GOES DIRECT MOTION. This is the first bit of good news to share, since we’ve had the occurrence of FOUR planets in retrograde motion and TWO in combustion with the Sun….all of which produce rather challenging conditions. Jupiter rules Sagittarius and Pisces, and has been traveling through the fire sign Leo since July 13, 2015. Since Jupiter is a great benefic, that’s fairly nice for the Leos, except for Jupiter’s 8th house rulership in their charts, bringing a certain amount of vulnerability and transformation to their lives during this transit. Since malefic Rahu (north node of the Moon) joined it there on January 8, 2016, that adds to those qualities. Jupiter can also add a certain degree of arrogance to those with Leo Rising or Moon charts, which is a quality they don’t really need more of, in any case! Now this forward movement of Jupiter, can bring more progress for the three signs in question, which will be a nice relief.
May 17th – Mercury gets out of Combustion. So that is the next piece of good news! Not only do those signs that are ruled by Mercury: Virgo and Gemini, benefit and feel relief now, but any type of communication with our fellow human beings should go smoother now, whether it is verbal interaction, emails, letters, bank statements, or other important documents in which there are items we could have misinterpreted before. Since the challenging condition of SIX planets has been so intense since late in April, this will be a welcomed change.
May 19th – VENUS moves into Taurus! Ah, how this great benefic loves to be in her own sign. Those with Taurus Ascendants or Moon signs will suddenly feel like they are swimming in familiar waters, and Venus adds a touch of luxury or at least creature comforts here, as well as renewed interest in art, music, romance, etc. (and possibly some self-indulgence!) Remember that Venus is also combust (traveling too close to) the Sun now. This makes a planet grouchy, angry, more reactive than normal, so you may find your moods mirroring these qualities, at times. This condition lasts from April 30 until July 13.
May 22th – MERCURY GOES DIRECT MOTION. Ah, yes, finally it is out of Retrograde! A good time will be had by all Virgos and Geminis, or at least a better tim ethan you’ve had all month, up till now. Mercury is still in fire sign Aries at this time, which is the beneficial 11th house (gain, income) placement for the Geminis. It is not as good for the Virgos, in that the ruler of their chart is still in their 8th house of battles and disunion, transformation and vulnerability – this may produce feelings of being “in the gap,” watching and waiting for conditions to form and gel so that they can manifest for you, once Mercury moves onto the next sign and a better house (9th) for you, on June 7th.

Planets Transits in the Vedic Sky for January, 2015
December 31, 2014Happy Vedic Stars to you in this new year of 2015! I wish you all good fortune as we turn the corner into this fresh start. Please keep in mind as you read my Blog about these planet movements, that your own Dasha periods matter the most, at any time period under consideration. These are your personal planetary cycles, based upon your date, place and accurate time of birth. When I provide my Vedic Astrology readings, we go deeply into the effects that both your dashas and the planet transits (gochara) are having in your life at this time.
Helpful Note: if you have not had your Vedic chart read by me as yet, this will help you understand how your birth chart appears in our system, which is based upon the Sidereal or Fixed Zodiac: just take every planet and also the degree of your Ascendant as they appear in your western astrology chart back 23 degrees, and that will give you a good idea of what your Vedic birth chart looks like to me, so that my Blog posts can be of use to you.
1/01/15 – The MOON is exalted (in Taurus) as we begin this year. This brings blessings of prosperity and positive dealings with the public to those with Taurus Rising or natal Moon charts. Those with Cancer Rising or Moon should benefit as well.
MERCURY makes a lot of changes this month and is a player we must watch.
1/01/15 – MERCURY gets out of combustion. This brings some ease to the Virgo and Gemini Ascendants and Moon chart people, for whenever the ruler of their signs is traveling too close to the Sun there can be friction, and feelings of being easily annoyed and irritated. It’s nice to start the year, getting out of that condition.
Mercury just did move into the sign of Capricorn on 12/31/14, joining its friend, benefic Venus there. Mars also is in Capricorn, its sign of exaltation as the new year starts. Thus the Capricorns of the zodiac should be feeling energized, ambitious, playful and in a very fun-loving mood right now.
1/04/15 – MARS moves into Aquarius. Now the energy torch passes to this fixed Air sign, and those with Aquarius Rising or Moons will feel their worlds heat up with the driving action energy that only Mars can bring. Expect to be drawn into some creative project now. You will also see a boost in your career from this transit.
1/14/15 – The SUN moves into Capricorn for the next 30 days. This is not the most advantageous sign for the Sun, as it is ruled by Saturn, and those two are not friends. For Leos, ruled by the Sun, this represents a 6th house transit for you. The 6th house is associated with enemies, rival, competitors as well as worry, stress, anxiety and health issues. For Capricorns, this represents the 8th house ruler crossing the first house of self and body. The 8th house deals with vulnerability, transformation and sexuality. With this influence impacting you now, Capricorns, try to put off major decisions for one more month, if you can, for you will be feeling better and thinking more clearly once the Sun has moved out of your sign.
1/21/15 – MERCURY RETROGRADE STRIKES AGAIN! Need I say more? These periods come three times per year, typically, and last for three weeks at a time. Thus we will be dealing with this retrograde period’s impact on communications until 2/11/15. This can be experienced in a whole host of ways, from misunderstandings in personal communications, to melt-downs occurring in any equipment that deals with communications. Mercury will be in the sign of Capricorn when this cycle begins, which is a friend’s sign. For Virgos, this represents your 5th house of education and success, so that’s a good placement for the ruler of your chart. The other sign that Mercury rules is Gemini. For the Ascendants and Moon sign Gemini folks, this will be your 8th house transit, so it is not such a comfortable position for you, since this house represents vulnerability.
1/22/15 – Venus moves into Aquarius. Here it will join Mars, which is already in this sign, making those with Aquarius Rising or Moon signs feel sexy and attractive, and adding to your creativity now. Librans will likewise feel rather romantic as Venus represents the ruler of your chart, now crossing the 5th house of romance. Taurus is also ruled by Venus. This transit represents your 10th house, thus career should get some positive energy and focus from you Taureans now.
1/24/15 – MERCURY now also goes Combust the Sun (in addition to being retrograde). It will remain in this condition until 2/04/15. Those who will be most influenced by their ruling planet being too close to the Sun, are Virgos and Geminis. As usual, remember to be tactful and utilize your natural logical abilities vs. giving in to irritability now.
To understand how these planetary shifts affect your own life in 2015, please call me to schedule your personal reading.

September Planets: MARS moves into Scorpio on 9/04/14
September 2, 2014Time to check on the Vedic Astrology planet moves for September!
The biggest and best news from my perspective is that MARS, planet of action and ambition, moves away from its great enemy Saturn, out of the sign of Libra and into Scorpio. Mars owns this sign and will be much happier here. This occurs on 9/04/14. By the way, did you feel it when Saturn and Mars were in a recent “planetary war”? That means that they were within one degree of each other and it was just like rubbing two flintstones together to make sparks! That planet war lasted from approximately 8/24-8/28/14.
Scorpio Ascendants and Moon sign people will really feel so much more energized…and relieved as well, to find the ruler of your chart now out of your 12th house of isolation, loss and expenses. It should make a big difference in your daily life, goals and projects. This cycle begins for you when Mars moves on 9/04.
LIBRANS can rejoice! You are the ones who have taken the biggest beating for SO LONG…not enough to have that strong Saturn crossing your first house of self and body for 2.5 years (it remains there until Nov. 2nd this year), but first to have the malefic north node of the Moon, RAHU crossing with Saturn, and now since July 13th, Mars took the place of Rahu. Neither of these celestial “roommates” has made Saturn feel comfortable at all. We can see that on the world stage as well as in the lives of individuals. Thus I am looking for a little more “peace on Earth” once Mars moves away from Saturn.
Saturn rules the signs of Capricorn and Aquarius. Therefore, having Mars move off of the ruler of your chart, will be a boon for you. Saturn has been in its sign of exaltation for over two years, in good houses for both Capricorn and Aquarius, but you have not been able to enjoy the fullness of that transit, due to first the 18 months transit of RAHU with Saturn and since the lunar nodes moved, Mars mixing it up with Saturn. You may benefit most of all from the move of Mars into Scorpio.
VENUS (which governs the signs of Libra and Taurus) just moved into LEO on 8/31. This represents a good house for both Libra and Taurus so should bring some blessings your way. However, Venus will become “combust the Sun” (traveling to close to this fiery orb for comfort) on 9/16/14. Due to its rate of motion and proximity to the Sun, it will remain in this condition until 12/04/14. During this time, you could feel just a little more edgy, testy, short-tempered, impatient and snappish than your usual calm and diplomatic selves (Libras and Taureans).
At least the Venus transit in Virgo should be pleasant for the Virgos, since it rules your 2nd house of wealth, and 9th house of good fortune! It may bring some relief from having just Rahu sitting in your 1st house of self and body. The 9th house energy of your Venus can help you “be the right place, at the right time.”
9/16/14 – the SUN moves into Virgo for one month. This is a friend’s sign and 2nd house for Leo Rising and Moon signs, so they will feel closer to some family members, and feel like communicating more. Plus it is a cash flow/money house so Leos should experience all of these areas getting more enlivened now. For Virgos, the Sun owns your 12th house, so can bring a more inward focus on time alone for meditation or spiritual pursuits now, but watch the expenses and losses qualities the Sun may bring you as well.
9/20/14 – MERCURY moves into Libra, a friend’s sign. This represents a good house for both Gemini and Virgo Rising and Moons signs, so that is a plus for you. Librans will get mixed blessings, for Mercury rules your 9th house of good luck, good fortune, remedies, pilgrimage and Natural Law, so it brings you those qualities. However, it does also govern your 12th house of loss and expenses, isolation or seclusion. Since the 12th house is also a spiritual development house, Mercury here can bring you those yearnings for more growth or solitude for positive reasons now, Librans. Those of you lucky enough to have some foreign travel planned, Mercury can help bring that about too, if all the other factors in your personal chart allow that.
MERCURY will stay in this sign for a long time, all the way until 11/24/14, due to another Mercury Retrograde period coming up: 10/04-10/25/14. Okay, you have been warned about that one! LOL.
9/24/14 – Venus moves into Virgo, its sign of debilitation. It feels weaker in this sign, plus it will be transiting with malefic RAHU. For Librans this is your 12th house, so this is not as positive a time frame. You will need to watch out for losses and expenses, and for feeling isolated. For Taureans, this is your 5th house of success, children and love affairs, so Venus here now can prove beneficial. This changes on 10/18, when Venus moves into Libra.

MARS enters Libra Feb. 4th; Mercury goes Retrograde Feb. 6th
February 3, 2014Are you ready for the astrological changes February is bringing in?
Well, ready or not, folks, here they come:
2/04/14 – fiery planet MARS enters the air sign Libra, where it will be conjunct with its enemy SATURN, which is very strong in his sign of Exaltation, as well as tricky north node RAHU. This is going to be one doozy of a conjunction! Yes, it does make me worry for possible outbreaks of violence throughout the world, including at the Olympics. This is simply a very volatile planet line up. Saturn is like the Immovable Object and Mars is like the Irresistible Force, to give you some idea of what I mean. I am also concerned about several clients, friends and relatives who have been driven nearly to the edge already, just from Saturn and Rahu’s conjunction in Libra for the past year! Those of you with Libra Rising or Moon signs will be feeling this the most….
2/06 until 28 — Mercury will be retrograde. This can be expected to throw the typical monkey wrench into communication and any equipment which deals with same. Try not to take it personally, especially those of you with Virgo or Gemini Rising or Moon signs!
2/12 – Sun enters Aquarius – For Leo, the sign ruled by the Sun, this will be a pleasant change, as it leaves the 6th house of worry, enemies and obstacles and enters the 7th house of partners, travel and marriage, although this is still an enemy’s sign for the Sun, just as Capricorn was in the previous one month transit.
2/09 – 21 – Mercury combust the Sun. Combustion occurs when a planet travels too close to the Sun. This condition makes the planet (and those ruled by it! – Virgos and Geminis) feel more irritable and crabby, rather than their usual diplomatic selves. Tactfulness may go by the wayside during this period.
2/18 – Mercury backs up into Capricorn (it has been in Aquarius). Now we have the time to re-examine, or complete projects begun during the previous transit of this sign.
2/25 – Venus enters Capricorn – it is in a friend’s sign here and thus happy to bestow so many Venusian gifts upon those with Capricorn Rising or Moon signs: affection, comforts, even luxuries, pleasures – just be careful not to overdo it in terms of self-indulgence, Capricorns!
Looking ahead some into future months, there are some interesting points to consider:
March 1st Mars will go retrograde, while in Libra.
March 24th Mars backs up into Virgo. It does not go into direct motion again until May 19th.
JULY 13 will be a heck of a day!!
Early that day, at 1:40 a.m. MDT Rahu moves backwards, into Virgo (and Ketu into Pisces). At 9:41 a.m. MDT Venus enters Gemini. At 9:14 p.m. MARS enters Libra (again) and will stay there until September 4th! So for awhile earlier that day, both Rahu and Mars will be in Sandhi (the gap) at late degrees of the same sign (Virgo) so that’s not a fun time, either.
When is the last time you treated yourself to a Vedic Astrology reading? It is only in the context of a personal reading that I can fully explain what all these planet movements mean for you now, and in the year ahead.
Thank you for any referrals you may send me for a personal reading, yearly reading, couples compatibility reading or astrocartography reading,or if you would like to book an appointment for yourself, or as a gift for a family member of dear one. Please just call on me, and we can schedule a 90 minutes, taped session. From the Sunshine Corner, as ever, Mary Stevenson, Vedic Astrologer, 303-473-9393, healingevents@yahoo.com.

SATURN now out of Retrograde; Sun moves into the sign of Cancer
July 16, 2013SATURN goes Direct – Hello Libras, Capricorns and Aquarians, we got a lot of ‘splainin’ to do!
Saturn has been crossing the Air sign Libra since 11/15/2011, and those with Libra Rising or Moon in the Vedic Astrology system have been feeling it (and to a lesser degree, those with Sun in Libra natally). Note: Vedic Astrology is based on the Sidereal Zodiac.
On February 18, 2013, Saturn went retrograde, which is “the appearance of going backward”. A planet in retrograde motion just gets stronger to deliver what it stands for. Considering that Saturn was already in Libra, its sign of Exaltation (where it feels strongest), this has been one powerful Saturn (see my previous Blog posts on this subject). It has had to dance through this sign with malefic North Node Rahu as well, since January 14, 2013.
JULY 7, 2013 – SATURN WENT DIRECT AT 10:50 p.m. MDT.
Typically it is a good thing when a planet is Exalted, however, “exalted Saturn means exalted grief” according to one of my teachers. Therefore, my sympathies have really been with the Librans who have been bearing this load for so long. In an interesting twist, Saturn happens to be your Yogakaraka planet (brings best results) so perhaps you have not been feeling as badly as some do, when this planet is crossing the first house of self, body, personality and direction of your life. However, we must also consider its conjunction with RAHU, so you have definitely have been experiencing the “seizing and letting go” qualities of this North Node planet of Transformation and unexpected events.
Saturn stands for hard work, duty, humility, responsibility and gives the mind the ability to transcend. On the other end of the scale, it also can bring depression, delay, obstacles, slow progress, and separation.
For those with Capricorn or Aquarius Rising or Moons (signs which Saturn rules), at least Saturn has been crossing a very good house for you: the 10th house of career, name and fame for Capricorns; the 9th house of good luck and good fortune for Aquarians. Now that Saturn’s forward motion has been resumed, projects and goals you have been working toward can gather momentum and get completed, at last. Please note that it will take until October 14, 2013 for Saturn to move forward back to the same degree it had reached, prior to going retrograde. Therefore, it may take you that long to manifest all the things you’ve been working on.
Now some important information for those with Virgo, Libra or Scorpio natal Moons: Have you heard of “Sadhe Sati”? Well, you are IN it right now.
Sadhe Sati is a scary term for those with a bit of knowledge of Jyotish or Vedic Astrology. When Saturn transits progressively through the 12th, 1st, and 2nd house from your natal moon, this is called Sadhe Sati. Saturn takes 2.5 years to pass through each sign (30 years to make one round of the zodiac). Its journey through these three houses in a row in your birth chart totals 7.5 years. Sadhe means “half” and Sati translates to “seven” and hence the name Sadhe Sati. There is a general belief that the Sadhe Sati period brings dissatisfaction, disappointments, depression, differences, disputes, disharmony and undesirable results, but actually this is not always the case. Saturn may behave this way to a greater or lesser degree; it really depends on the individual’s birth chart and inner motivation for and action towards, self growth as well. For example if Saturn is acting as your yogakaraka planet, it generally does not cause such a measure of problems in your life. Most people go through three major periods of Sadhe Sati in their lifetime since it recurs for us every 28 years; four periods are very rare (though my own mother did live through her fourth Sadhe Sati since she was born into her first one and lived until nearly 94 years of age).
Sadhe Sati’s Influence
While it is true that during this 7.5 years Saturn transit period people do experience some tensions and troubles, it is nothing to be afraid of. Even while giving some delays, frustrations and obstacles, it does not deny you success. As a matter of fact, a number of people prosper to new heights during this period. Sadhe Sati is about doing one’s obligatory duties without attachment or aversion to same. One who always maintains this approach and attitude towards life, is least affected by Sadhe Sati and in fact may gain during this period. However if anyone is arrogant, egotistic, unsympathetic, and lazy vs. hard-working, then he is targeted during his Sadhe Sati and Saturn can make him go through a lot of hardships.
Those with Virgo Moon are in the last one-third of their Sadhe Sati. Those with Libra Moon are in the middle part (generally regarded as the most challenging since Moon stands for mind and emotions and Saturn stands for “grief” – there is a feeling of some external, environmental pressure on you). Scorpio Moon people are in the first one-third of their 7.5 year Sadhe Sati period. If it is troubling you too much you could always have a “Yagya” done and I have an excellent source in India, for this spiritual service, if you wish to contact me.
July 16, 2013 – The SUN has entered the Water Sign Cancer, which is a friend’s sign. This will help bring Cancer Ascendents or Moon sign people closeness to family, more powerful expression and should be a better cash flow, too.
July 17, 2013 – VENUS enters Leo, a Fire Sign, making the Leos of the Zodiac feel more sensual and attractive and bringing in a very active and energetic time for them. This is the 2nd house for the Cancer Ascendent and Moon sign individuals, so can add more prosperity and increase communications.
July 17, 2013 – MERCURY goes non-combust, i.e. gets far enough away from its proximity to the Sun, to be free of the malefic effects from the heat of the Sun. This will also add to clarity of intellect and better communications, especially for the Virgos and Geminis.
July 20, 2013 – MERCURY GOES OUT OF RETROGRADE! At last this latest 3 week Mercury Retrograde period is over. It is safe to come out of hiding and not have one’s communications equipment blow up, go out of order, or just feel more free of being misunderstood now!
