Amelia Earhart’s Vedic Birth Chart

July 22, 2017

The mystery of Amelia Earhart’s disappearance has intrigued me for so long. It’s time to analyze her Vedic Chart, looking for some clues about this beloved and legendary aviator, with an impressive record of historic, record-breaking accomplishments.

The most important elements in anyone’s birth chart are: Rising sign, also known as Ascendant (or Lagna in Sanskrit), Moon sign and then Sun sign, in that order.

According to the birth data I found online for Amelia Earhart, her time of birth would make her an Aries Rising.  That certainly fits.  My key descriptors for anyone with Aries energy are: “Energetic Innovator,” adventurous, pioneering, independent and a self-starter.  Considering that Ms. Earhart was the first female pilot to cross the Atlantic Ocean solo, earning her the title of “Lady Lindy,” and other breakthroughs she had as the best known of the early female pilots, this description certainly fits the bill. The Rising Sign describes a person’s self, body, personality and direction of her life.

Mars is the ruler of her chart, and is located in the 5th house, which describes the inclinations of one’s mind.  Here Mars  provides abundant ambition, drive and courage, and gives good mathematical abilities to her mind.  It is conjunct with its friend, benefic Jupiter, providing a love for knowledge, as well.

The MOON is in the earth sign of Taurus, and sits in the 2nd house of family, wealth, and communication.  This Moon is in its sign of Exaltation and sits there with Venus, the ruler of this sign.  Thus she had ample financial benefits and came from a well-off family.  She was a good communicator, speaking often on her love for aviation. The 2nd house also governs the face and organs of the face. She had a very sweet smile, as others have noted who knew her, and video footage of Ms. Earhart shows, in my opinion.

The SUN is in the water sign Cancer, and sits with Mercury and Ketu (south node of the Moon) in the 4th house.  This house does govern “conveyances” which includes aircraft.  It is my belief that tricky Ketu is one of the planets involved with the mysterious disappearance of her aircraft, on its round-the-world flight, on July 2, 1937.  Ketu stands for hindrance and degradation, and it can make things seem “invisible.”

I feel that the planets Ketu and Saturn contributed to her disappearance and the continuing mystery that surrounds it, as I’ll describe here.

SATURN sits in her 8th house, which governs “life and death” among other things. From here, Saturn aspects (looks at) her natal Mars and Jupiter. As I mentioned, Mars is the lord of her chart so any influences on Mars are most significant to the owner of this birth chart.  Saturn also aspects her natal Moon, which would help give the steadiness of focus necessary to be a good pilot.

July 2, 1937 – the day of her disappearance. Her takeoff time was reported as 8:55 a.m. from Lae, New Guinea.  The chart of the day shows that the Sun was transiting her 12th house (of loss, including that this house can deal with one’s own death).  The Moon was conjunct Saturn in her 9th house that day, indicating to me, a good deal of fatigue. Add to that, the malefic north node of the Moon, Rahu was currently in her 5th house of inclinations of the mind. This may have contributed to less clarity than normal, as Rahu can make us act on urges or impulses instead of clear thinking.

Her personal planetary cycles (called Dashas) on the day of her disappearance, are one of the most important considerations here. If the time of birth listed for her online (11:30 p.m. in Atchinson, KS) is correct, her Dashas would have been Jupiter/Moon/Saturn at the top three levels. Both Jupiter and Moon are good planets for her, other than that Jupiter does own her 12th house of loss.  It is SATURN at that 3rd level which I feel contributed its characteristic qualities of “grief, depression, obstacles, delays, slow progress, separation” etc. to the events of the day.  Especially when we consider the importance of where its sits in the 8th house of vulnerability, transformation, life and death.

Furthermore, by the time the plane went down, it seems likely to me that tricky KETU would have been involved at perhaps her 5th Dasha level.  At any rate, Ketu was conjunct with Venus that day, in the transits.  These planets were crossing on top of Ms. Earhart’s Moon chart (Chandra Lagna) and thus contributing their respective influences.  Benefic Venus was strong in its own sign that day.  Ketu was then at a degree very close to the degree of Ms. Earhart’s natal Moon. With the Moon standing for mind and emotions, Ketu could have brought on a layer of its “hindrance and degradation” to either her feelings or thought processes, or both.  Certainly, questions remain as to why she didn’t invoke her contingency plan of turning back with enough fuel to make it to her previous take off point, when she was unable to find Howland Island, her destination for that day of the flight path. A combination of her usual confidence in her plane, and her own abilities, along with the uncontrollable tricks of Ketu can all be part of the answer.  Ketu, after all, is known to “hide things,” and make them invisible. She could not find the island she sought, and her final faint radio transmission recorded her sounding tense in her search for it. Despite a plethora of theories and some valiant explorations over the years, the answers to this great mystery certainly do remain …invisible, at least at this point.
